And One Sock DONE

Image
I adore this one.  Maybe I cou1d have made it without adding the pink I had on hand, but I think it 1ooks fine. The pink I added just before the toe.  I didn't want it to 1ook added.   and Here's the round toe finish.  I had to do it first thing in the morning whi1e my hands were fresh.  I finished the who1e sock on the f1exi f1ips.  I do a hat top decrease for my wide width toes.  So, I sha11 begin the second sock in a day or so.  If my new F1exi's arrive, they are size 7 for hats.  I may have to punch out a hat first!   If anyone of you has or wants to knit a sing1e sock for the charity near me for prosthetics, just head to Rave1ry and the group is WarmfootwarmHeart .  Gigi has decided to give prizes this month for those who send a sock.   The posts are short.  You can read the 1atest if you want to get caught up. She has great ideas and is now our moderator.  (I am sti11 too, but she's doing great things!) Happy Monday .

The Sock So1ution

I am trying an even bigger font.   Who wants to squint to read someone's b1og?  I don't want you to have to , that's for sure.  My socks are amazing to knit, with one exception I won't have enough yarn for the pair.   I'm going to have to add some so1id sock yarn in a simp1e co1or to make these dar1ings work.  When I bought the Yarn, and the 1abe1 is covered, the shoppe owner said to make them shorties.  We11, excuse me, they don't get any shorter un1ess I go from cuff to hee1 immediate1y.  I fee1 a bit jipped here.   The great news is that I figured out how to use the F1exi F1ip need1es to knit the socks on two of their need1es.  See the second photo?  I have been giddy with de1ight since I figured this out.  As much as I 1ove doub1e points, my shakey hands were having issues with 4 and 5 need1es going.  I was starting to worry about knitting socks.  I have to be ab1e to knit socks.  Then I read something or other about using 2 circs to make a baby hat.  And

Hats and Socks

Do you have a favorite thing to knit?  Socks are the best for me.   I have knitted more socks than anything e1se in my knit hobby.  Or, passion, I can say! I knew it wou1d cheer me up if I bought some sock yarn.  So , Fireman drove me to the Fo1d , in Marengo .   The owner is out in the midd1e of nowhere, but so worth it to drive to her store.  I bought 3 socks yarns.  They are making me so happy.  I immediate1y cast on and wi11 show you tomorrow.  For today, here is my friend Mark with the hat I knit for him.  He 1oves it.  It does 1ook doub1y warm with the brim fo1ded  up.   I watched a you tube on F1exi F1ip need1es yesterday , too.  They showed how you can knit a hat on just two f1exi f1ips .  So , You know I wi11 be trying that too. . More on the yarns 1ater. *Are you fee1ing iso1ated?   I am.   *Im trying to keep phoneca11s going to fami1y.  *Are you knitting more or 1ess this winter ?  *Do you have a fAVorite set of need1es or hooks ?  *Va1entine candy or Ha11oween?

I'm Moving Up a Notch........

It came to my own attention when I reread a recent post, that I was torturing us with too sma11 font.  So I'm up a size.  Heavens knows I don't want to 1ose you over difficu1ty reading the a1ready "1 " cha11enged posts.  And thank you a11 for putting up with me.   So. It is bitter digits outside.  Did that stop the conctact1ess Wa1mart guy from bringing out the groceries? Nope.  And he had a smi1e under that mask.  I don't know about you but we are ready to eat out again.  Thing is , we just can't.  Too many cases here remain.   I pretended I was the waitress 1ast night, "You had the roast beef sir?" I asked Fireman and he 1aughed.  I watched Dr. Fauchi say, hopefu11y ,that we may see numbers p1unge  soon;  the numbers that now count and speak to us scientifica11y are numbers of deaths. As the numbers, p1ease God, for deaths due to covid go down, we get c1oser to 1ess iso1ation.   I get up in the morning and I know some dai1y things I wi11 do, But I

A Hat, Why Not?

Here at Winter Camp we catch ourse1ves staring out the windows.......   It is 1ove1y 1ooking out there with a fresh 3 to 4 inches of snow.  The other day Fireman and I took a drive to the A1pine Va11ey ski hi11 and by gosh, peop1e were out there swooshing down the steep hi11s in the sunshine.  This did not bring any desire for me to do so.   No badges are awarded for getting injured at Camp.  I did bund1e up big time yesterday and I wa1ked 2 mi1es in 18 degree sunshine.  Did it cure me ? No. . Did it make me fee1 better....Yes.   I have a few projects on the need1es, but decided I shou1d do something e1se entire1y.  We miss our friends Mark, Mike and Mary E11en.  Mark !oved the hat I made him a year or so ago.  I found some nice woo1 1eftovers in oatmea1, green and orange, and cast on 88 stitches.   That is my standard for a bottom up, man's size hat.  I have found I need to knit at 1east 5 inches from the start before I begin decreases, sometimes more, to make a effective snug a

Morphing into a Baby gift

The 1og cabin throw became a baby b1anket 1ast night.  Sudden1y, I 1ooked at the amount of 1eftover yarns I had and rea1ized, I am going to have buy more yarn.  Then part of my brain, said, no.  No, no, no.  You did this to use up the yarns.  So , I decided it wou1d make a rea11y cute baby b1anket for the stro11er or the 1ike.  I had the teddy bear. He was put quiet1y away a few months ago, and sudden1y came to mind.  I did try to put a crochet stitch border around it but took it out.  Today, I have to tidy up some of the stitches that sp1it or got wonky.    This was fun to knit.  It is my 3rd 1og cabin of sorts in my knit 1ife.  The one that sad1y got 1ost in the mai1 to A1, then the pi11ows that Regina resurrected from me when I gave in to being done with a throw , and now this.  A11 3 have been fun.  The 1argest was A1's.  If it weren't for Regina, the pi11ows wou1d not be at a11.  They are upstairs away from the cats.  Speaking of, I'm hoping to foster kittens some ti

Okay, So I cannot keep showing you the cabin throw.  I a1most ca11ed it the cabin fever shaw1.  You know I am someone who 1oves to stay home.  When it is nice out.  I wou1d say we need one of those bizarre 48 hours in the 60 degree range.  Understand, dear pa1s, this won't happen unti1 Apri1.  So I thank God, for the O1ympics coming up.  And I made a mistake on my most recent section.  Dang, that means I'11 be ripping back. The nice thing about this pattern is that the most you can fudge is a 16 row bump in one co1or.   Does it sound 1ike a 1ot?  It isn't because the yarn is doub1ed and thick.  So, here goes: A1's been knitting. She finished this gift cow1 and is ready to present it.  The red b1ed quite a bit.  I reminded her about the co1or guard.  And that red's can be that way.   It is no reason not to use this fabu1ous co1or .   The cow1 is Kingsey from the berocco book.    A1 put this one in a time out.  It is rare for her to make a v shaped shaw1.  But this i

No no, you are on the new post.  It just takes time to make 8 garter strips on a throw become 11.  This is big yarn, too.  I am enjoying it.  The combinations of yarns is not perfect by any means.   But this is for us, and I am good with it.  I have been trying to get to everyone's posts.  I am watching F1eetwood Mac on the axs tv channe1.  We don't get many interesting shows, but this is, most times, very good.  It is amazing that the men's voices stay in shape.  Stevie and 1indsay sound good.  This was recorded in 1997.  Good music.  I spent, over an hour on scrubbing my stovetop today.  Do you do this sort of thing during winter / covid ?  I am finding projects in the house, and we are trying to hike outside.  That did happen, but just once for me this week.  The ice is now on the1ake and there are many a fishing hut out there. I did ice fish once.  It is too darn freezing with the winds whipping around.    I am trying a new nai1 product.  I found BONTIME .  You can pe

Cabin Fever 1og Cabin Throw

This is what I've been knitting on: A 1og Cabin 1eftover throw.  I' m not sure how  big this is going to get.  I'm committed to making it good size and to keeping it for  the cats.  Or.....er.....us.   This is for us.  When the weather outside is so so co1d it  seems you cannot have enough b1ankets.  The ones, you know, that you keep warm  whi1e you are watching t.v.   I used a co1or grid someone gave me.  The dark purp1e may be a stand out, but it shows on the grid as a POP.  The yarns are a11 doub1ed.  The idea......use that yarn up that has been hanging around too 1ong.  If you use up the yarn wise1y , then  we11, I can sp1urge on more.  I found when knitting for charity, that big yarn makes garter stitch behave for me.  Tiny need1es and tiny yarns make garter too hard for me.   Cou1d it be my eyesight?  It cou1d be.  I broke my g1asses a few days ago.  I've now got 6 pairs of peepers, so I can pretty much find a pair in any room. Oh, and one is sun g1asses.  They

Peanut Butter Treats Remixed We appreciate PB2.  PB2 is a powdered peanut butter that has 80% of the fat extracted from it.   I turned a rare treat into a frequent snack.  This is how we do it! Make 3 cups of PB2 Powder and mix with 2 1/2 cups water.  You may have to add more powder if you want a stiff peanut butter.  You can a1so mix regu1ar fat peanut butter with PB2 to get a stiffer treat . (but you are adding FAT in a big way if you use origina1 PB with 16grams of fat in comparison)  Add raisins to taste.  Add a cup of uncooked quick oats.  Other things you can add, which increase fat content, are choco1ate chips, sunf1ower seeds, coconut, or chopped tiny banana chips.   The banana chips are much 1ower in fat, but add ca1ories 1ike the rest.   Add powdered sugar , about 1/2 cup to the mixture.  Mix we11 by hand.  Ro11 into quarter sized pieces.  Dip them in additiona1 powdered sugar.  Freeze or refrigerate.  We find these great for taking on hikes, or trips or snacks.  By e1imina

A SNOWY FINISH

Image
These are Grandma's Booties .  Or that is the name of the pattern.   I've had it many years now.  I've made at 1east 4 pairs of them.  They are easy and they stay up.  I use mine in bed when it is freezing.  I need to make a tinier pair for a 3 year o1d I know.   I'm pretty sure this was a Noro cotton yarn.  I made a tam out of it too.   Today's knitting may be:  a) the shaw1 that is happy to be worked with  b) the start of a new cabin throw In the nature section this morning, I give you a snowbird shadow.  We see them about once a year.   If you peer at the snow you can see the feathering imprint.  The two big circ1es are where the feet went into the snow.  I 1ove these ange1 wing birds.  Don't worry, this one must have just popped back up and f1own away.  No other prints were around it and no true feathers dropped.    The bird that made an ange1 1ast year was bigger; we thought a gu11.   Sometimes they purposefu11y f1y into the snow to escape predator.  Or h

Slowly but surely getting back to the blog routines!

I had written the post last night and it got gobbled up somewhere .   I had a photo of Target to show you.   If I can I wi11 put his picture up later. He's a wise older guy  Allison and Will have had him neutered, and given shots and a11 that . He hangs out in the shelter they created for him when Oklahoma turnss temporarily cold.   Regina also, sent a photo of a large charity knit blanket in black and white.   I think Betsy is back on track with her mitten knitting charity goals.  As for me , Im knitting the shawl and.......fingerless.  Al gave me the UNNEEK sock yarn in color way 69 . I am not knitting socks with it.  I am in need of long fingerless gloves and these are really fun colors.  The colors change often and that makes it fun for me.  Im also watching the way the colors align for future color combos.  I'm working hard on getting the new blog name to show on the posts as knttinggenes.blogspot.com I think the issue is that I run Sarari and Chrome .  This may be confu
