We had a busy Thanksgiving weekend. On Thanksgiving Day my brothers and their families came up to my mom's for dinner. My niece Maggie (who's 8) asked me to teach her to knit. I went out Friday to get some needles and yarn since we were going down to my brother's house in Plainfield on Saturday for Erin's birthday. Erin turned 10 this week, she is Maggie's older sister. So here are some pictures of Maggie's first knitting lesson and of Erin in her birthday hat and felted daypack. I taught Erin and Maggie the knit stitch, and they both caught on pretty quickly. I hope they are able to do some more knitting before I see them in Disney World!

The Birthday Girl
I hope Santa isn't making that list yet, because I have been busy making my own sweater, when I ought to be knitting gifts! I'd say that's NOT the Nice category. I am a superstitious knitter. I am on a roll with this top down sweater. I think I'll jinx it if I stop and go back to it later. Its not December....yet. I have 13 days to make my sister's birthday Irish triangular scarf in seed stitch. It's my own alteration of the Interweave pattern. Yup. I am experimenting and on a deadline to boot. I also know that if I go to the soft cream colored merino wool for her scarf, I'll be addicted to the softness and my not go back to the Mission Falls cotton that I am using for the sweater. I have the remaining 12 days to make Troy's entire second ski sock........ By the way, we had HUNGARIAN stuffing at my family's Thanksgiving table. For the 44th year in a row I just couldnt even taste it. My Hungarian father and Uncle told us

I think I

Problems with photos and Blog engine right now

I have so many nice things to show you in photos, and am having lots of trouble with the free blog engine we use.....until we resolve this sorry no pretty photos! Downright excited to start my Knitting Pure and Simple Neck down sweater......al choose the yarn color for me. Its a bright winecolored red, otherwise known as Mission Falls 1824 cotton. But I m denying myself starting until after: troys second sock is on its way.......I havent finished the first one yet, and....... after I finish knitting my friend Phyllis' birthday present for the surprise party I cannot go to on the 14th. Its a scarf and I am going to dress it up with some beads........thanks for the inspiration Maureen. Cant decide if this weather depresses me or is perfect for knitting........ Kath

Heirloom apron....the Hungarians could crochet too!

Well, well, well. Feeling mighty smug this morning. MY Hungarian side could crochet too! My mom dug out the heirloom engagement gift from her mother-in-law and gave it to me......its lovely really. I am going to display it in my kitchen. Al's comment: "IF my mother-in-law to be gave me that, I'd have to kill her...." The poignant part of this story: it was the last thing my Grandmother, Olga, made with her hands, before she had a series of massive strokes.
