Fyber Monday

Image
I'm in love with this mini teeny tiny sweater.  Time will tell if I knit one.   Would an elf say it itches?   For someone who has used an artificial tree for years, I am very obsessed with Fetch the Tree images. I love the idea of the stars, but the great thing about Ravelry is, there were some OOPS photos reviews.  I won't be trying this.    I'll be looking for Fiber deals today on Fyber Monday.  *on a side note, my sweet mom said a few lovely things last night.  Among them: "God is listening!"  The angel in her already has her wings.

The All of It

Image
Someone's enjoying the fire!   Loved the bag....just not practical   Cut open the pumpkin for our squirrels' Thanksgiving Read on a blog, (Whose?) that this was a great Irish book. It is very very short.  It was okay.  Thought I'd read it before I gave it to my friend Helen.  My mom might have loved it. Slow roasted a turkey breast at 175 degrees for hours yesterday. You start at 450 for 15 minutes then turn it down.  And then you wait and wait for hours.  But it was Moist Delicious A winner of a way to roast our turkey There's been knitting of course. Cotton scarf knitting. This two circs thing slows me down but I'm enjoying it none the less.  That's the All of It here today!

Is it Saturday or What?

I bought a tiny wonderful something at our hospital gift shop yesterday.  My old Creche is so, well, so dark.  This little sweet thing makes me smile.  My first decoration is up.   I like it so much it may stay up all year.    I started a new Trap scarf.   In garter. In cotton. In Misti Alpaca. The other night. I frogged it.  Call me nuts, and you may.  I cast on this thin scarf on two circs in the round.  Now this is FUN! I don't quite know how I did it, but I sort of figured it out and  it is easier than garter to me.  Garter gets away from me.  I knit like the winter wind and then I realize I've dropped a stitch without looking and I just cannot for the life of me pick up a dropped garter stitch.  This tube is easy and I've set up two equadistant fold lines so it will lie flat.  More as we progress...     Finally, is it Saturday or what? Thursday felt like Sunday,  Wednesday felt like well, Wednesday, Friday felt lik

Black Friday Fun

Some love to shop.  If you are one of them have a fun safe day! There are a few stores I love to shop, but they are really few. *I love any knit shop of course *Book stores *Cheesy tourist gift shops *the hospital gift shop is awesome *Walgreens....I don't know why. I can get lost there for a good hour. *the jewelry store around the corner only sells silver and very inexpensive designs *Free standing stores are okay.  I don't like malls, I don't like "shopping centers"  As for me, On Black Friday I'll be knitting.  Enjoy the movie. I switch from throwing to picking ....if you want to try to catch the change....

More Thankfuls 2015

So Thankful for these three -   and For this guy   That this guy became ours!   For my Local Yarn shop, Three Bags Full and all the inspiration everyone there brings to my knitting For pretend friends.  This means YOU! I Love your comments, your friendship, your posts.  Enjoy this day whether it is with a big group of family or just with one other being.  Maybe even your dear dog or cat.  Lots to be thankful for.  Know that I'm thankful for you!

Happy PreThanksgiving Thanks

I'm thankful for Starbucks Passion Tea even in winter.  Our friend Nick made me a starbucks gingerbread drink this week and oh my.    It was like drinking a cake.  I'm just as good with some Passion tea and a lot less calories. I'm thankful for the Starbucks existing right next to my Local Yarn Shop.   I'm thankful for my high school buddy Kath.  She lives in LA but she's there whenever I need her.  I sent her these little dishcloths and some fun soap from LUSH.  More thankfuls: Ellen from San Fran. You make me laugh.  I'm thankful for the knit connection. I'm thankful for my electric throw.  I'm under that baby almost every day while I watch TV and knit. Pie gets under it with me. Fezzik and Tank lay on top of it.  I'm thankful for my little Honda Rhonda. The girl has pushed past 100,000 miles and  17 years of age.  She runs like a sewing machine..... I'm thankful for the library across the street.

Declaration of Dishcloth Week

Image
Why then do I give you a hat? Well, I dont have any dishcloths to show you yet ... that's why.  My focus this week will be good old cotton dischcloths.  In the meantime:   This is the Tensfield Hat by Behm. Interesting construction.  Sigh, it looks itchy to me .   My son nearly broke his yarny mom's heart at REI the other day.  He picked up a SMARTWOOL hat and had me feel how soft it was.  There's a place in our world for mass produced merino Smartwool, I guess.  There are days you wear your mom's knit hats and days you don't.  As long as there are both kinds of days, I'm fine with it. Really. I am. Really.   ******   I tried to make a PAW print dishcloth yesterday. By the time I finished, the print was barely visible to me.  More on dishcloths later.  I will say that the smaller yarn by Patons (Grace) are much easier on my wrists and joints than the big cottons.    *******    Finally, today,  I am trying ou

All Over the Place this Monday

Image
Well good Monday Morn!  Let's start with a sock finish.   I'm pretty sure I should have upped the needles size by at least one. I felt like I was wrestling the stitches, especially on the purl side of the heel flap.   They won't let a breeze in that's for certain.   I loved everything about  our snowfall on Friday and Saturday. Gloriously draped on each branch and bough,  sure to chase even the Scroogiest away.. This naughty boy drags the draft stopper all over the house. My leftover sock yarn tube became useful this weekend.  I stuffed it. Like a turkey... Random number generator picked Debbie fair and square in my little contest this weekend.  Yes, I know she just sent me my first spindle EVER, just because. The Knit gods spoke and returned the favor.  Deb of Araignee, look for little goodies to come your way later in the week.  I'm all about practicality with my knits these days.  The draft stop was just too itchy to be anything

GIFT FOR A GUINEA PIG

Image
I'm still knitting the socks.  I'm in the homestretch but they are going to get a day off.  After I knit the hat I showed you yesterday, I washed it and it bloomed.   It has the softest most wonderful fuzz to it.  However, the brim is not tight enough. It's a fail in the hat department that's for sure.  I did go up a needle size with the body, but clearly the brim needed to be on two sizes smaller needles. Never fear.   It is going to become a gift of unparelled proportion for my vet.  She has a guinea pig and I hear they love to hide in such things.  Her guinea was a dump.  Someone said they found him.... really?  Like where? On the side of the road after escaping from a child's bedroom and unlocking all the house doors? She took him in.  I cast on an ordinary garter scarf in the same yarn and I will knit it and it will bloom.   It will be soft and fuzzy and perfect for a child to wear.  It is a garter day here.  and i

Thous Shalt Not

Image
My second square top hat is done.  I think I'll gift this cute one to the youngest great nephew.  He's a hoot.  Jax always has a little devilment in his eyes.  He's quiet....he is very quiet....but he's got it all going on in that growing brain. It might be even more hip if I had made the cuff a roll brim. Next time....Thou shalt not anger the knitting spirits   We have these phone holders in our cars now. Mostly so they don't slide all over the dash while Siri is giving me much needed directions.  Thou shalt not argue with Siri. Though shalt not covet thy neighbors Holly, but I do.  They have a hedge of the most wonderful holly. The leaves are perfect.   For the cat lovers, I leave you with this cartoon. Thou shalt not confuse the cat....

Thankful for:

My socks are moving along.  Once I get to the gusset I just finish them and stop the side by side method.   I think my eyes need a break from tiny stitches and tiny needles today.  everything was looking like this last night......   Nancy at Three Bags is stitching stockings again. This tree truck is so cute!  There will be a few changes here at Irisheyes this holiday season: My cookie control tradition is gone this year.  I'm not even keeping cookies in the house, whether  wrapped in packing tape or not.  The temptation is just too great. This is not to say I won't occasionally indulge when a Christmas cookie presents itself during the season.  ******* The tree is going to be a big old mess with Fezzik and Pie this year.  I may start with no ornaments because Fezzik is a kitten and because Pie climbed the tree last year.  This could make putting it up and taking it down very easy! ****** I will start my Thankful for's today:

So Much Talent .....The Crochet Periodic Table

Image
Our new Vet at the practice crocheted this blanket for her friends.  They are chemistry folk, so there you go.  The Periodic Table.  Isn't it amazing????

Oh Yes I have an Opinion..

My sock knitting is progressing. I spent yesterday knitting two heel flaps and turning the two heels.  I'm very content.  I ordered some Cherry Tree Hill Sock yarn last week.  I'd like to knit a pair of socks for my sister for Christmas.  When I've managed some swaps years ago, I got to see so many different sock yarn skeins. I cannot get Cherry Tree here so I have to order it.  I remember loving it.    Here are my sock yarn thoughts: Regia is too harsh on the feet and has little give to it. If You want to be entertained, however, it has great fair isle patterning.  Socks that Rock are too big a gauge for my liking.  Their colorways have great names. They make it too difficult to get a skein.   I don't want to JOIN a club to get my yarn. Koigu is not sold as sock yarn, but it makes a great sock yarn. I've found you can wash and dry it in the machine and it doesnt felt.  I hope Knitpicks has improved

Gone but not Forgotten ...Great memories

Image
Side by Side socks are my go to.  I'm thankful to Jan who taught me to knit socks way back.  Enough said.  Socks are socks and some of us love them  (ahem DEE) but they don't provide much in the way of blog chat now do they? The cowl HUDSON by Quince and Co got a little time on the Three Bags Full Corner Blog this week. Purdy little thang.   The middle section is called the RICE stitch.  I see that.  Looks like rice, right?  Now that the radiators are warm and on for some of the day, I am thinking about my Rozzy.  We put her down last spring. She was our radiator girl, our party girl.  Miss you Rozzy.  Feel your prescence with us still.    If you have to put a pet down, don't worry. You won't replace or forget them.  You will get to a place where all the memories are good! You will let others into your heart. Each unique, each bringing joy, what a gift they are!

Thank you Chewy.com

We Jumped at the chance for a Kong tunnel from Chewy.com this month.   Thanks Sydney.  Even if Fezzik cannot fit inside it, he immediately enjoyed it.  The leopard print is so chic!  You can unfold the tunnel for flat play too. That's how Mr. Big Fezzik enjoys it .... with a touch of catnip sprinkled across it.  He especially likes the little mousie dangling from the tip top.  We do not get paid for these Chewy gifts, we just blog as a thanks.  This is dear Dayna with Fezzik.  She's a cat lover. I sent Allison's cats a new cat tower from Chewy.com. Word is they LOVE it.  Chewy delivers quickly and without hassles.

Socks and Soups and Serious Cats

I want the Santa yarn.. I want it now.... I think it was only available on an Etsy sellers site and it is all gone. If you have some, if you see some.....let me know? Okay?   My sock knitting is in full swing.  Perhaps because my toes were freezing yesterday. I put wool socks on.  I sat under my electric blanket and I knitted.  You cannot knit enough socks or have enough socks in the Midwest.  I've had fun occasions to go into my Knit Finish drawer and hand out some gifts .  I gave about 10 pair of mittens to someone who helps with the homeless. I gave a big pair of mittens to Zach's pal Steve.  Steve is moving to Colorado.  I gave a Trap scarf to his girlfriend because she loves all things knitted and her birthday is Sunday.  I donated some hats to our church drive.  Tis a blessing to give.... For some reason I can wear wool on my feet and not feel itchy.  It is the Knit blessing I've been born with...  Yesterday was Unstuffed

That's a Pretty Girl....

It may seem that I am knitting in my sleep, walking around with yarn in my pockets and needles in hand.  I'm not. Well, not quite. Okay, I would if I could....but I can't. Anyhow  I found these socks yesterday and one was complete, and one was at the heel turn.  So I finished them.  I'm bad. I can't tell you the yarn name and it wasn't in the bag I found the project in.  I can tell you I don't like the yarn. A yarn's gotta have some bounce for me to put it in my fingers and wrap it around a toothpick-like piece of wood over and over again. This yarn did not have that bounce so I would not recommend it to you and I don't feel too badly about not having the yarn name for you. I liked the crazy colors enough to complete this pair and I'll gift it to a young niece of mine.     My kitchen is cozy this morning.  We are in the middle of a wind storm.  I felt the need to bake Irish Soda bread this morning. I could not find my Nana'
