Monday Meme Number 8 Leap Year Edition

Image
Time for our Monday Meme!  Hope you can join in for any or all of the questions. I love learning more about you.  (Dont 'worry about the tiny type on the photos.  I've just discovered how to write on them but I clearly have not mastered it.  I'll repeat the questions  so no one goes blind trying to read the TEENY tiny print.  I am silly with excitement about figuring this much out so far. ) 1.  Nancy gifted me these darling fridge magnets.  Do you have a special fridge magnet? 2.    This was a mural on an underpass in the city.  You can't see the owl in the middle very well.  I have to take photos from the passenger seat as we drive by.  ( Tarzan not slow down.  Yes I Love the new Geico commercial with Tarzan and Jane.  ) I love purple and aqua....what's your favorite two color combo?  3.  This green yarn photo says: I can type on the photo now! And Are you ready for March weather? We had 61 degree record breaking warmt

One of my Hungarian Uncles loves Irish Soda Bread. He is a great story teller and we don't see him enough.  He came for dinner with us last night so I made him a loaf to take home.  It's that time of year isn't it?     Someone at my LYS was knitting this Churchmouse poncho.   Super simple construction of a knitted rectangle.  She's knits a few rows of alpaca each night since November.  I admire her sticking to it.  Tiny stitches on a thin wooden needle.. She works in the wine business and uses a cord to keep her needles from slipping off .  Genius.    Some of you have said BFL is very soft and not itchy.  They have some in greens on the clearance rack. I have other projects in mind, so I walked away...but it was hard to do . Wingspan is so lovely.  I won't knit it, but I surely love it.  Has anything inspired your yarn work lately?

Big Breakthrough

Image
This is the Fresh Till Cowl by Rebecca Fox. Free pattern.  I love it.  I used Madelintosh merino in  Worn Denim.   The amazing breakthrough for me with this knit up, is that I am not  itching wearing this cowl.  I cannot tell you how exciting this is for me. Madelinetosh you may have changed my life.  I thought all wool was OUT for me forever.  I'm in love.  I'm knitting another cowl with the same yarn but a different pattern.  Just for fun, I give you a piece of history. This is a remote control from long ago. Fireman and I went to the Chicago History Museum for the first time in our lives yesterday.  Fascinating stuff.  Is there a wool that doesn't feel like wool to you?

What I've Learned Knitwise in 2016

Image
One of the things I've learned in my knit world this new year, is that fun trick with the crochet hook for weaving your sock toes without that dreaded kitchener.  Another thing: My wrists love a SSK or SSP over a K2Tog. I don't have to wrangle those stitches together and twist when I slip slip.   It took me 12 years to discover these things.  Part of the discovery is the confidence to substitute what a pattern calls for.  I was too timid, too unsure, too uptight to improvise with a pattern.    I plan to finish my cowl in Madelinetosh worn denim today. One of the reasons I frogged the shrug : the stitches got stuck at the circ needle join on the drop wrap row.  (see picture one)  There are no snags at the join, but the stitches were stuck like a traffic jam and it required lots of pulling on my part.  We all know I have to like the knitting part to carry on.  In cat news: Pie has claimed the little hooded bed I brought home last week.  In the k

Nothing OF My Own to Show you, Except My Darling Girl

Image
My girl turns 28 this week!   She's taught me so much.  My children, (like yours,)  are adored by us.  Here she is in Minnesota with us and with my sister's dog.  Miss you baby girl!  If it weren't for Al and Zach we would not know Virginia, the Outer Banks, and Mexico ......for sure .    Maybe it was the full moon, but my mom was awake for our visit last night.  She's stuck in the 80s right now. She keeps asking to see the new baby I had.  She keeps congratulating Troy.  We laughed and had fun together last night.    Perhaps tomorrow I'll have a finished cowl to show you! In the meantime this teddy hood from Minnesota's yarn shop will have to do. Oh and this sweater is buttoned up the back. Mohawk Wool Sweater by Berry on Ravelry. I'd never knit it, but I love the look.  Did the full moon affect you or yours last night?

Things I'm Loving

Image
First off, I loved your answers to my Meme yesterday.  I laugh at the same commercials you do!   I'm so not a fan of pointy shawls.  I LOVE how this one is tied however.   Must remember this.       I'm a bit bored with my diet so I tried a banana baby last night. MMMMMM.  Dark chocolate.  If you believe Diana they are 4 points.  If you calculate on weight watchers they are 6.  So how about 5?    This dinner from Skinny Taste was surprisingly good! Ground turkey, peppers, olives, onions, spices and tomatoes. It was very filling and quite tasty.  They call it Turkey Picadillo.  Al had a cold in Minnesota.  I began to feel it on Saturday and I decided to try this Zicam.  SUCCESS!  I barely blossomed into booger badness!  I was very good about using it every three hours for five times a day.  Wow, I hope this was not a coincidence.  IT really worked.   Finally, I'm not loving my shrug anymore.  I know I know.  I knit on it all through the Minn

Chewy February Mailings

It being Dental month across animal America, Chewy offered dental treats.   As usual I will put in the disclaimer: we do not get paid for the products they send us to trial.   We do get the products free of charge. The cats didn't like the dental snacks despite the salmon lobster offering.  We also trailed Tiki Cats canned gourmet carnivore.  I must say ALL the cats took to the gravy based shredded meats. They lapped up the gravy immediately.  I was thrilled.  Then Pie started acting strangely. She was yowling and not looking happy.   She was nauseous.  She vomited up more food than I thought her tummy could ever hold.  She had gorged herself on it.  Fireman is never pleased with cat vomit.  For the rest of the cans I had to lock her away while the others enjoyed it.  No one else vomited it.  They Loved all the flavors.  Thanks Chewy and Sydney. Another fun month of trials, meant treats for the Felines at our humble abode!

MORE MINNESOTA

Image
More Minnesota:  My Color Block pullover by Lipp Holmed.  I brought it for Michelle, but she gave it to Al.   Michelle felt it was too cropped for her age group.  I love it on Al.  It was Lion Brand Thick and Quick.  Very easy pattern.    Many good knits at Darn.Knit.Anyway in Stillwater, Minnesota. I like the Quince and Company top down cover up.  The shop had multiple tags on each item so you could take the pattern name and yarn with you.  Nice touch!     More fun at their shop.  The Knitalong bag and Month's project is shown below.   I will defer you to them if you are interested.  I know Caffeine Girl already jumped on board!   Most of the time I don't like clothing that requires a shawl pin, but their selection was stunning.  Mostly Magnificent!   My untrained color  scheme mind liked how the hat colors and the blocking boards behind them sort of matched!  Marvel at the hippopotamus.  Allison is thinking of knitting this darling toy for her friend'

Family Time IN Minnesota

Image
Just back from a family visit to my Sister's home in Minnesota.  She is not a farmer.  She is a veterinarian.   I love seeing all the farms along the way to Minnesota through Wisconsin.  So I have to share this cold farm photo with you.     My sister loves her Denver Bronco Mitts.  You can see they are not exact matches but close.  I Finished them on the road trip on the way up north.  My sister Michelle is 5 years younger than I am . We were not very close growing up, but we are very close now.  My sister looks so very much like my mom.  Allison flew in from Virginia for the visit!  We had a wonderful week. We hiked in the Lebanon Hills snow.  We played card games and we had some heart to heart talks about our Mom.      Dashielle their Gordon Sniffs evergreens in their yard for birds!  He has his agility trophy and is now working on field trials and birding.   My sister has a fabulous German shepard too.  It was great fun to watch the Westminster
