How to hang on to that Vacation feeling?????

Image
I loved the beach art on Sanibel island. How do I stay as carefree as this beach girl? I am back to work but it was a smooth reentry! Speaking of re entry's the first night in Florida we heard the sonic boom as the Space shuttle reentered the atmosphere for landing. It was very neat to know that it was the shuttle landing at Kennedy Space Center. I will show you my denim like sock yarn soon. It is so great to have Cricket home. We have lots of work to do. Guess what is his favorite thing to try to play with? Wooden needles and yarn........ I think the command will be : NO Knitting! I talk more in the comments!

Finally Finished Fingerless in Florida

Image
These will be gifted. I used a waffle stitch. I may do some crochet edging yet for a bit more finish. I love the way to waffle broke up any pooling. Do you know of any other patterns that are short, simple and break up pooling? I already have my yarn for the next pair; I am just waiting on the right pattern. Katherine, loyal commentor and pretend friend, asked me to be honored with a blog award and list 7 things you don't know about me. Here goes! *I have yet to find a comfortable chair in my house to knit in. *I need to be more protective of my time. *I just went on my first Vacation without buying yarn or a pattern. (I could have, but decided none of the yarn called me!) *I am a shakey hands person. THere are times of the day where I am too shakey to knit and relax while I do it. Wine helps this! *I have had FUN with swaps and Ravelry swaps. I'm stopping for now. THe mail fun will come in the way of ordering yarns. *I almost NEVER order on line. I use the ph

Knitting on the Beach

I finally got on a plane and flew to the Florida gulf. It had been 15 years since I last flew. One day last fall, I decided I would make myself fly again to get away from the snowy winter weather. A major accomplishment for me. I had some medicinal assistance, I am not ashamed to say. We flew American and we had no troubles. Flights on time, no weather delays, no baggage problems, and no knitting needles problems. One our way back, I had Fireman on my left, ( I wont look out the window) and guess who on the right????? Oh I'll just tell you. It was an American Airlines Captian who made me feel at ease. He reassured me the plane had a great safety record. He helped me and I hope I helped him. He had to take the flight to return to his home because his teenage son was sick and his wife told him to get home. Can you believe my wonderful luck? I had a Captain sitting next to me and Fireman on the other side of me. I will tell you tomorrw about my FO on vacation. I have t

Have you felted Fingerless?

Image
I found this pattern and picture in a knitting book the other day. I have never thought of felting fingerless. Hmmmmmmm. They sound very warm.......I think I may have to find some wool and make a pair. I have been given 2 lovely skeins of cascade 220, which I consider the best choice yarn for felting. Fingerless are, well, perfect for dog owners. When you are messing with the leash and keys and treats and well, okay, sometimes a camera too, you need those fingerless. Are you a dog lover who uses fingerless? Cricket jumped up at my hand on his walk today, and I said, "NO! not the fingerless Cricket boy" He's rambunctious and clownlike and I am in love. But there will be no damage to the fingerless..... I have to tell you that I volunteer at the animal shelter by my home, in the operating room of the shelter. Yesterday I helped the amazing Dr. Kristine while she removed an arrowhead from a poor dogs hip. I didn't know how it would look when it came out. I hav

Borrowed from Fiberitis Post

Image
I love the nupps in this shawl. I can see the pattern so beautifully this way. I have never seen a lace shawl knitted this way. Bev from Fiberitis took this shot of it . For more info go to her FIBERITIS blog. It is a lovely blog anyhow. Is this accepted by lace knitters? I love that there is no negative space. I usually am squinting at lace patterns to see what they are really trying to depict. I want a shawl like this one. I dont want to make it though! I don't like things that are difficult for me to see. Constellation names seem so wrong to me. I cannot for the life of me see some of the animals that are supposed to be in the sky. I know that some of them have lost stars and that makes it more difficult. What do you know about this type of shawl? I talk more in the comments!

Oh no, they are here

Thin mints. Girl Scout thin mints. I hope I can go the night without opening the box. If Zach wants to share one with me tomorrow ....then I'll get one. Why are these cookies so good, when they are frozen and I can have them with a glass of milk? Are your girl scout cookies here yet? Which Olympic event are you drawn to so far? Did you buy a book from Knitpicks 40% off sale? (I did, for a gift) Do you like the mint green chairs on the sitting area with Bob Costas? Are you expecting yarn this week? Are you starting a knit, finishing a knit or frogging a knit? I am in a questioning mood.....

Happy Valentines Day weekend!

Socks or fingerless? Please vote

Image
I am nearing the decision point. Should I make these waffle socks or waffle fingerless? I have Olypmics to watch. I have a new dog to smother with love and walks and toys. I am taking a little trip soon...... I am leaning towards fingerless. I think I just decided. Thanks. I need to make some fingerlesss for some great women that work at the shelter with me. Fingerless are needed all spring and into May in Chicagoland. The wind off the lake stays in control until about June. 5 things I am happy about: *Al passed her nursing boards. !!!!!!!!!!!! *I dropped Cricket's leash by accident this morning and he took off running, towards the busy road. I called him so cheerily "CRICKET COME".......he stopped, looked around for me, and ran full tilt back to me. *My neighbor says Cricket can use her fenced yard for us to play in until we put up a new fence in spring. *My back is feeling good ......walking a new dog sure helps. *I am next in line for CUBA in the Roun

I didn't eat them all

At the bakery today...... I took this shot for this blog. I can feel almost guiltess about a cupcake. There were red velvet cupcakes........that is MY choice. Guess what? I saw a gorgeous shawl today....at a dept store. I had it up to the register, wondering how I would explain it to you all, when the price tag was missing. I took it as a sign. I was crunched for time. Im having some friends who turned 50 already, (i am so jealous) for dinner tonight. I told the guys at the register to just put it aside. It was dreamy. I could have said I knit it. It was poly/acrylic and it was incredibly soft. I am not ashamed. It was this delicious color way that would have gone with my daily blue jeans.....I think I may have to go back...... Or I may have to knit on on big old needles fast......did I mention it was 25% off? I just don't have a moment to ponder it really. Sometimes I wait to see if I still want it, and then make a decision. It was just a garter knit in a big way.

Want to see me turn this ball of yarn into socks?

Image
I still think it is magical...what we knitters do.... This ball of yarn was a prize in a contest I entered awhile ago... more on the yarn when I work some magic with it.... I was delighted to beat the post office by nearly 3 dollars with my latest 4.95 USPS box. I put a little yarn gifty in the box and a bag of ...... dark chocolate Hersey kisses. Got that little box nice and heavy.......it would have been nearly 8 dollars if I didnt use the flat rate box. Oh joy. Plus I would have paid for some sort of packaging....can we call it 4 dollars now? This frugal irisheyed Hungarian American loves a bargain! If you are looking for something creative to do with your Valentine roses. ahem, P. Allen Smith's Gardening Website gives you step by steps for making beads from rose petals. ........ I wont' be doing this, but I'll just bet one of you tries it or has tried it. Have you seen the Love cards by Hallmark that have sketch of a skein of yarn on the cover.....I have and I b

My way

Here is the first of the cabled socks in alpaca...I continue to love the color and the feel. I decided to make the sock for my little fat Hungarian feet. I made a round toe and when 24 stitched were left, I divided them and did a 3 needle bind off. This allows for my wider with feet. I am not certain is looks good when it isn't being worn....that is why I didnt show you that part.... I am not sure about it. I may frog it.... This frugal Hungarian felt pretty miffed the last time I sent a flat rate box for 4.95 at the post office. The USPS beat me. It would have been cheaper to send it in another way. THe postal woman clerk tried to tell me that I should think of it otherwise because I didn't have to pay for the box. Still not happy, I decided to beat it bigtime. Im sending a package to a friend who reads this blog, and it is tiny and heavy.....Here's hoping I beat the system this time. I'll letcha know! (Cricket is such a treat. Im walking again! My back do

This coffee cup warmer was sent to me in a swap, from Jennifer C. Grace linked us in her winter warm up swap. This is just one of the great swap gifts we exchanged. I have been thinking of making warmers before, but haven't really liked the patterns out there. Swap and you shall see! This is a the answer I was seeking. (NO, not that I didnt' have to knit one, that I would love to knit one just like this) It is a simple tube construction in a geat colorway. I always get really really lucky in swaps. OF course, I do call the luck to me! Try it I talk more in the comments!
