Knitting Time just Ahead

Image
I don't know if the periodontist found any encrypted messages in my teeth last night, (A Serious Man Film image). If he did find a message I hope it was my Nana's favorite riddle: Thirty white horses on a red hill, Now they chomp Now they stomp Now they stand still. (teeth) I have a thing for those Riddles. If you want more for the brain workout today google The Theives Guild and Riddles. All in all it was a good time at the gum graft yesterday. I love that laughing gas....I tell you I could FLY the plane on that stuff. At different points I felt like there were a thousand marbles in my mouth and the hour after we got home was a pulsating pain throbbing workout. But a little more than directions call for of ADVIL and a lovely ice pack and I was settled an hour later. Oh and I hadn't had any caffeine so the headache was throbbing in synch with the mouth ache..... Nothing like some lukewarm fresh coffee to snap out of it! No talking is allowed for the

Love this Sign on the Truck

Image
I think they forgot something on that sign though : Use Feliway Spray. What is that you ask? Well, it is a calming spray for cats. We adopted Beatles yesterday for real. IT was the 2 year anniversary of Huck's passing no less. When I told Stephanie, Heartland's sweet director, that I think Radar will love Bea but ROzzy will not, she told us about this spray. So we've been spraying it around .......and I think there may be a key to world peace here.....so far there's only been one hiss.....and it wasnt' until this morning.... So we are in the crazy cat category again. Anything over 2 cats is crazy cat house to me. I haven't bought cat shirts or earrings yet though.... Beatles is learning to leave my yarn alone when I am knitting......I was secretly thrilled he has the yarn gene...

There's Good News and There's Bad News

Image
The bad news is that Al got a library notice: the good news is she had to come over when she stopped at the library to pay her fine. (did I do good Donna B? The light was great that day) The bad news is that the leaf bookmark isn't sewn up right; the good news is it was so easy and fast furious and fun to knit. The bad news is I'm having a gum graft tomorrow; the good news is I have to have milkshakes. The bad news is that today is the day we lost Huck 2 years ago; the good news is that we are adopting little Beatles today for however he long he shall live. The bad news is the sun is setting sooner each evening; the good news is I adore all things autumn. The bad news is my father's dear friend is in a nursing home now; the good news is he wanted ME to have all his old fishing tackle.....isnt' that sweet?

Wishing good thoughts for you all under the hurricane

Good luck to all in the path. Keep your knitting nearby! Be safe. THis too shall pass!

Mayfield Leaf Bookmark

Image
I really want to knit this bookmark, about 30 times. I'm thinking Christmas bookmarks....I love the look and idea. I have to buy the pattern now and conquer it... It looks .....hard. Remember when they took the Barbie off the market, that said, "math is HARD". Well, shoot it is for some of us wordy folk.. I'm off to purchase the pattern and figure it out. 4 months to Christmas.......say I make 8 a month.....hmmmmmm.....let's say I make one first! I have the new pattern, great idea, love the look feeling in my knit heart today!

Today's interview with Fireman

Image
I was interviewing Fireman for the blog today and he was giving me sarcastic kind of answers. For instance, I asked how many days a week I knit and he said, 'Geez that's a hard one, how about 8?' WE went a few rounds and then I asked, "do you like to buy me knit gifts" and he said, no! He said it is too difficult AND it looks like nothing when he wraps it. Well, then I had this awful idea. I'll volunteer to help your spouse, boyfriends, family when they need to buy you a knit gift! Send them on over. As far as it looking like a small thing, well geez diamonds are small too right? I love knit theme gifts. What's more fun than new yarn????

Ramblings

Image
I have only questions today.....I'm not sure of much of anything other than I will sleep in my own bed tonight.... Should I knit another beret? I have an entire skein of Ella Rae extra in those dreamy ocean colors. I decided Yesterday when I had no questions, that I was done with the lace scarf in Ella Rae. Today potato chip knitting is begging me to cast on another beret..... Should I have a gum graft. What? That came right outta left field! My mom is slipping a teensy bit, so today's conversation jumped around just like that.....I think I'm still in stream of conscious mode.... The periodontist says yes. Ever had a gum graft? Should we adopt little Beatles? The poor doer kitten? This is a ridiculous question. we know we will. Come Monday, (it'll Bea alright) he'll be freed from the bedroom upstairs with his siblings. His siblings, one of whom is the pensive little Sweet Tea pictured above, will go to their adoptive home. Come Monday......I'

At long last

Image
* Hummingbird at my feeder.....I've waited YEARS.. They've come to the flowers for a day or so each summer/fall, but never to the feeder. Never repeatedly. I am over the proverbial moon about this. Now....how to get the loons here..... *Austermann cotton yarn is the prettiest cotton I've ever laid my hands on. At long last, a cotton that looks like yarn, as opposed to rope! How will I part with it for Dish Rag tag? Now....how to get my hands on more soon. *Storms on the real time horizon. No kayaking today. Now, how to convince Fireman to watch a movie of my choice today.... *Have you waited years for a bird sighting????

Questions....

Image
Found this gem of a book at our library yesterday. It is thick, full of great images and I want to try many of the patterns. This is an almost never for me! I'm choosey. I don't buy pattern books often. I'm cheap. I may end up purchasing it. Do you have your eye on a new pattern book? or any new book?

Delusional Knitter Laceweight Yarn .....

Image
The yarn is Delusional Knitter's Laceweight. It dreams of being on my needles. I hope that dream comes true tonight. I have to say the Ella Rae yarn that I making the ocean/water colored stole in is incredibly soft. A treat to put in your hands each time you pick it up. I think I have been bitten by the lace bug. I am not confident but not afraid anymore either. Grace has been very encouraging. I am still diving into patterns with few row repeats for now. The Birthday Closing Ceremonies were last night. What an incredible week I've had celebrating. The food the fun the friends the fawning over.....all were picture perfect. Who am I now passing the torch to dear blog friends?

Underrated......synonym = Underprized

Image
I prefer Under-prized. Here's a list of under-prized: *Beautiful old cemeteries *Knitted cotton dishcloths *Cats *A good broom (no, not to ride on!) *Coleus... *pharmacists *spiders *knit blogs *70s afgans and...

Beret: Not Just MORE Socks, by Rosner

Image
is it a flying saucer? nope, it is a finished object.... No seams to sew, just 2 ends to weave in. The beginning end and the finished end. No blocking. Caps for Sale! remember that children's classic???

Grafitti

Image
Al is knitting this Ashworth Scarf from Cosmopluto knits. It is really pretty.....I have knit her patterns before and they are straightforward and wonderful.. Have you? I'm told there is graffiti on our car this morning. I haven't gone out to check it out yet... Hooligans. Supposedly it is of the genitalia variety.....I think I'll add to it the correct anatomic terms and make it an educational mobile......the nurse in me couldn't care less about such triviality. Just kids having fun on a summer night..... I hope they come back to check out their work and see it is serving another purpose now! hee hee hee

Thankful Monday

Image
Thankful for *the most awesome birthday *Fireman ( at the Lake Michigan Kenilworth beach yesterday) *news my friend totaled her car but she is FINE. *a hummingbird spotted in our yard yesterday *knit meet up today at 11 with great old knit pals *all of you for reading and commenting and encouraging *a cool crisp night for sleeping *Beatles is growing albeit slowly *music.....loved the country music festival on TV last night

Meet Rosemary and Clooney

Image
Grace and Katherine have completely spoiled me this wonderful Birthday. Katherine sent me a yarn gift certificate...and I am enjoying deciding what to pick! Grace knit and sent me these two adorable felines to help me with my fosters... Meet mom, Rosemary and her little handsome one Clooney. Grace wrote this incredibly creative note to me about how they've come to be. She also sent me a pen that is a measuring tape as well. There;s more. It is like Christmas around here....A Vera Bradley bag and two other darling knit toys I will show you tomorrow. I am over the moon (it is full) not having to work a night shift tonight. Al called me at the stroke of midnight to sing happy birthday to me. Do you take your birthday off from work? I always try to. Fireman is spoiling me too. Does this day have to end? I cant wait to see Zach and Peter and Al later in the week for dinner. Thanks for all the great birthday wishes. I am so thrilled to be 51 and healthy this year! C&

What brings you Happiknits?

Image
Berroco Sox sock yarn O'Toole brought Dorothy happiknits when she came home yesterday. I wanted to wait to tell you her prize until she had the yarn in her hot little hands...... Pippa's litter of kittens has brought so much happiknits to all of us here in town. Tomorrow most of the litter goes up for adoption. Go to Heartland animal shelter website if you want to adopt one. I'll miss their antics. But they are getting big and tired of their Bed room. Time for their forever homes. Beatles is too little and too odd to go back yet. He's staying...maybe forever...we are thinking that one over.... Channon's Fireman yarn is bringing me happiknits too and I hope to finish the beret and show it to you , soon. My sister Michelle sent me Christmas cookies for my birthday! Lots of happiknits going on there.... what is bringing you happiknits?

More 51 things

Image
(The Firefighter yarn is now going to be a beret......from Not Just More Socks. I was overjoyed to change to bigger needles after the 1 1/2 "ribbing. The colors are just so cool. I am about half done....) *Spay/neutered 11 kittens this morning *Bought 32 lottery tickets this year *Baked zucchini bread for 40 minutes yesterday *Did not eat potato chips for over 35 days..... What's left: Only 3 days until I am 51.... Maybe I can Donate 20 things to the food pantry... I hear donations are down. Hang a new picture in my house.....this is very unlikely... Finish the beret Write my friends a thank you letter and Try paddle boarding.....

51 things before 51

Image
Let me start by saying, I didn't get anywhere near completing my list. That said, I did get some of the things done. I love making lists. I love the solidity it gives my goals. So when others were creating their lists, I imagined mine. I won't bore you with it all. Here are some of the things I did before (my birthday is coming up Sunday, I have some time left) my 51st. * Make ONE list *Highway drive TWICE (alright I only did it once, to Donna Booshay's house. But it counts as twice because it was so far....and I had to face my truck fears) Yes I am the lady in the slow lane driving you all nuts! *Kayak 3 times. More than thrice.....loving it mostly *Drop 4 lucky quarters....(this was so fun. I highly recommend it. I left them on the bench outside our Dairy Bar ice cream store) *Raise 6 kittens. (the list is supposed to be fun too!) *Bike for 9 miles ( indoors counts......right?) *Write 11 prayers (this I cheated on too. Geez Im cheating on prayer.....

Nighttime post

Image
Donna B. of Quiet Life took a nighttime photography class and inspired me. Not that this image is priceless or perfect, but I love my screened porch on summer nights. The lights are all on ....("Do we have to have it lit up like a runway?" fireman often says....more than asks....) I need light to knit! I haven't taken my headlamp out in a while....perhaps it is time... Today after much thought and agonzing over making Fireman a tie with the great new swap yarn from Channon, (with the fireman label,) I cast on and immediately said, "Forget it" You only cast on 30 stitches and you are supposed to do it on straights. I did the last one on double points..... I simply cannot go round and round and round on itty bitty needles again.... so.... I cast on 64 on double points.... they'll either be socks, fingerless gloves or mittens....Haven't decided yet! Love the generic cast on ...... Far more reading of blogs today than knitting of stitches..

Have You Seen These???

Image
The new Forever Stamps....Owney the Postal Dog. I had to have them. Channon was my swapper and sent me FIREMAN yarn. Purrfect. Who knew? Have you seen this label? Does it mean a portion of proceeds goes to Firefighters??? And as if the label wasn't enough I love the colorway even more!

Dorothy WINS and so do I

Image
Dorothy won my comment contest. http://mommy-knitter.blogspot.com/ Head over to her blog to see some wonderful wonderful knitting. Dorothy you have to send me your snail mail so I can send you the prize! I won big today too! Al and I visited Donna Boucher of Quiet Life today. Yes, yes this is the pretend friend Donna who I met at the Cub game a month ago. I couldnt' stay away. She is so amazing. Katie, her daughter is just a doll. Al wanted a road trip and Donna obliged. She made us a delicious good old layered salad...the incredible one with the mayo and sugar and parmesan dressing. We went on a yarn crawl as that was my agenda... The Sow's Ear is a must see shop in Verona Wisconsin. If you want a small charming shop with a coffee bar inside, you've got to go here. Katie is a near professional yarn winder. She will happily crank away until your hank is a lovely perfect cylinder. Katie and Donna, what fun we had. Funny thing is, Donna will be in my ne

Would you....

Image
Would you be able to grow these lilies like my neighbor has? Would you believe I am still knitting lace? My lace scarf is soothing, light and a delight. Would you attempt to knit a pattern up in a different language? Ravelry has a blu cardigan di elen a l.tiff that really interests me..... Now knowing how difficult it is for me to follow a pattern in ENGLISH, I think I'd best try to find a comparable, don't you? I've never even cooked using a pattern in a different language. I was at a dinner party with neighbors and Fireman the other day. The guests were from Israel and were delightful. The husband spoke some English, the wife very little. The thing was she smiled so much and was so deeply interested understanding that, the little charades we worked out filled the gap. She was so excited to see fireflies in our yard....... And we spoke a common language afterall, she has a love of cats. Imagine her delight when I showed her Pippa's six kittens in my
