Cakey goodness

Image
If you read CAKESPY then you'll recognize this dessert. It has all the ingredients for me to succeed! You use a premade pie shell, premade cookie dough, funfetti cake mix, and premade frosting. 25 minutes at 350 then frost it when it is cool. We'll see. I'm bringing it to work tonight as a treat. Do you bring treats to work? I try to on occasion. It is one more thing to carry from the parking lot into the maze that leads to the NICU. But we all are thrilled when there is a treat in the lounge. FO soon! My prayer shawl. :) I'll talk to you in the comments. :)

Connect the Dots knitting

Image
I was searching for Barbie. You would think this would be easy. No. Barbie is not easy to find in a world of Disney Princesses and Hannah Montana everything. Not to mention Dora the Explorer and Bratz dolls. All of them have their place, but I needed Barbie. This neice is the 4th or 4 girls with a significant age gap between the rest. Hannah Montana was playing with Barbie when these big sisters were growing up. Disney had a Princess or two. And I believe Ken was still interested in Barbie then. Anyhow after a long search, I found some Barbie coloring books. They came with crayons. Real crayons that make color on paper and perhaps the table they are colored on. My sister still believes it is okay to have paint to play with. No water magic stuff that keeps the precious house perfect. She also believes in play doh. I love my baby sister for this. While I was searching for Barbie things, I found a connect the dots coloring book. You see, this is where my art habits wer

What I want my knitting to be:

Image
This is the prayers shawl from sockyarns I have been stashing. These are my comfort colors. Blue jeans and bandanna reds. Garter. All garter. Using the square needles, and I've been really comfortable without any tendon pain. What's easy and doesn't roll? garter stitch What's take along anywhere knitting? garter stitch What's talk with a friend knitting? for me, it's garter stitch. If all I ever knit were garter shawls for a year would you keep coming around? What's something I can knit after a mind boggling, emotionally wrenching shift? Garter. Oh Garter stitch, I love thee. By nature Im wound up tighter than a drum, I don't need my knitting to be stressful right now. Garter is my summer theme. I'll talk to you in the comments. :)

Irisheyes' Lynn FO: Zimmerman baby sweater in Koigu

Image
Lynn told me she wasn't sure how it was going to turn into a sweater as she knitted it up. She said she found a good pattern rewrite on Ravelry and just made the leap of knit faith. Adorable Lynn. Kudos to you for a marvelous baby gift for our mutual friend at work. I gave the new mom to be, a Walgreen's gift certificate. Useful, oh yes. Adorable, not even close! I'm not ready to be a leap of faith knitter yet. But I am working on my color confidence. At ColorJoy on Ravelry's suggestions I am looking at fabrics I am drawn to for more color knowledge. My favorite crayola's were cadet blue and poppy. I would never ever have picked the colorway Lynn choose for the baby sweater, and yet it is marvelous isn't it? So now that we've done the black and white question (all you dogs and cats are the best examples!) lets do the color question. What color has suprised you lately??? I'll talk to you in the comments. :)

In the dog house....

Went to son's school ceremony with duct taped and medical taped together favorite camera for now. Lost door to little balck thing that has the pictures on it. Tried to use other camera for prom pictures. Lucky everyone has cameras now. Mine came out awful . Now you couldn't take a bad pciture of this group of young adults dressed in tuxes and gowns at someone's house that has a pool that they all stood along, several gardens,, a long winding staircase that held 12 couples at once giggling and looking fresh and young and alive and its own stable on the :property. BUt I did. silver linig: other parents will share their gorgeous pics THEN, I began to eat pbj's and tell fireman I am seriously saving for new camera. Fireman says a few days later: "what if I just went out and brought a new camera home?" (we never do this kind of thing. NEVER') I said, "GREAT There is only one feature I have to have, with the candids." Then, later, much later that da

NOW LETS GO

Image
I was trying for a good picture for the blog at the Botanic Gardens. I think my Mountain Colors two repeat lace scarf looks not so good at this point. Anyhow, a family was walking by when I was taking the picture and an inquisitive child said, "what is that?" The father said, "Its a turtle with a scarf now LETS GO!" I remember the LETS GO days in our family. Now the only one who gets that said to them is ME! Anyhow it is that end of senior year at high school time at our house. Last night I knitted during an awards ceremony. We were expecting severe weather. I figured I wanted to have my knitted when the tornado went over the school gymnasium. I think it warded off the severe weather during the ceremony. I only dropped one stitich between knitting and putting it down for al the applauding we did. Have you dropped a stitch lately? ! I'll talk to you in the comments. :)

Saving My Neck

Image
(Non -related image of Poppy at Chicago Botanic Gardens.Taken with my duct taped, medical taped together Fugi Finepix old camera.) If you read Ravelry you will see an image of the editors at a recent FIber Fest. Most of them are wearing scarves which appear to really be shawls. I love this kerchief look. I'm going to wear mine this way too. I hope it is a trend so people won't look at me as though I've wrapped a shawl around my neck. I'm into saving my neck. As much as I love v-neck'd everything, I noticed that leathery look to my neckline all winter long...... Fireman will just love my return to the clothing as sunscreen look. Last summer I took a month reprieve and basked in the sunlight, and my blue eyes shot out from my face like something electric. BUT, I suffered for it this winter. My rosacia, the kind that makes little blue lines on your face, surfaced. . The kind people come up to you kindly and try to wipe away as if it were a random Bic blue

It is a double header post day....

Image
I'll talk to you in the comments. :) Here is my Knitty falling leaves lace scarf underway. I am enjoying this one even more than the last two scarves. I am using a lace technique that one of you sent me for the 1000th post contest. While I Know that i CAN read charts, and I am deleriously proud of my left brain activity in this regard, I am the wordy type. So, I have been using the word pattern for the scarf, not the chart. One of you told me you do this. I am indebted to my highlighter tape for this. I just move the highlighter tape down with each row to keep my from goofing up when I am watching TV while I knt. I'll continue to use both methods for lace, chart and word. There is no right way... you all have grown me up to believe that I am....you know the boss of my own knitting. Sometimes I love being the boss. I get to be the boss on Mothers day too. Do you?

I don't believe much in co-incidences. When I bumped into an old friend Carol, we discovered we both were knitting now. Carol, you don't have to worry, my pretends friends will LOVE you. Carol is knitting a prayer shawl for her dear friend Karen. There isn't a rush with Carol's gift to Karen. She's been praying for Karen s-l-o-w-l-y. Karen says as long as she can have it in her coffin with her, Carol's promise is good ! I think I need to knit a prayer shawl. Carol tells me you pray for the person you are knitting it up for. I thought you gave to a prayerful person to wear when they prayed. How do you intend a prayer shawl........ I don't think there are prayer rules..... well, wait I think there are. We were at a dear friend's son's BarMitzvah on Saturday. My goodness, I've forgotten how many prayers are involved in this great day for a young Jewish man. Something about leap year and the weeks around this time of the year having t

Friday Forecast

The forecast calls for: Somebody's getting thrown under the bus. It is time for Lou Panella to throw a base throwing tantrum. Forecast is for maybe next year. We are watching a knitstorm headed in our direction. If this thing comes together as expected, you can expect a couple of feet of lace scarf very soon. And get out your camel yarn because there are some chilly porch nights ahead. You'll need your winter knits for some time yet as the Lake winds blow. What's your knitting forecast? I'll talk to you in the comments. :)
