  Fireman, or Retired Fireman, had some pressure treated lumber left over from a project.   We built a bench for the fire pit on Wednesday.  I was the go-for..   I learned so much.  Mostly, I learned that all those tools RF (Retired Fireman)  had asked for all these years for gifts, actually have a purpose. And  I thought they just played together on the basement tool bench.    As an added surprise, RF made me some birch candle holders, too. I love to light up the porch at night with candles.  Last night RF wanted a campfire. I asked him to test the yard for mosquitos while he was looking for  kindling.  No mosquitoes…..so We started the fire.   Then the bats came out.  I don't do well with bats flying around. RF just laughed.  I was sitting on the new bench.  It was lovely except the bats seemed to get closer and closer.   RF just laughed. Finally,...

  * This is the back.  I did a bit of basket weave stitch although it is not in the pattern.   I loved knitting this baby!  I have to decide on buttons.   The yarn was Chesapeake in a cotton blend.  I think I used 3 tiny skeins.   The three button band comes together when you switch to knitting in the round and it confused me.  I don't think I did it correctly but It works.   *Al's elephant buttons are too big, but I like the creamy color and will look for buttons at 3 Bags later today. I have ends to weave in and I want to wash and block it.   Oh yeah, I'm casting on another asap!  I don't have a baby in mind to give this to yet….but they pop up all the time don't they?  *Zach's dog bite is healing.   *Lilies in bloom all around our block.    *Baby sweater fun goes on using Chesapeake yarn.    *Watched Groundhog day and Jaws …..so far this week.  *Threebagsfull Yarn Crawl happenings…. *My very tasty son, Zach, got bit by a dog in Mexico over the weekend.   His guardian angel was watching over him. Long-distance worry ensued. Veterinarians Sister, Brother in Law and pal Kristine helped sort the risks out.   Reassuring Veterinarian on the Island of Mujeres went out of his way to calm us.   Risk of rabies, very very remote. No need for rabies injections.  It was a sound bite, but he'll have the scar to show the rest of his life.   Just like the shark catchers on Jaws…

  Still working on getting all those steps in daily. Last night I thought we could walk around the nearby carnival for snicks while getting steps. Two things happened that derailed me:  #1-They had a beer tent.   Fireman felt the need to support the community.  #2- I got lazy.     I realize these have been picture heavy posts, but there is so much more to photograph in Summer in Chicago than in winter.  These two ladies were getting their steps in while at the beer tent.  Guess what? People actually let their children ride carnival rides.  If my children did so, they never told me.  Every piece of apparatus seemed old and dangerous.  Some people just like to live large- I prefer to watch them.   Pharaohs' looking good here in the sunset.  It was a gorgeous night to be outside.  This is my favorite shot of the night.  I decided to buy a cool water bo...

  Our transplanted Rose Of Sharon is in bloom. She's right on time.  We don't get many blooming trees in late summer in Chicago; Rose of Sharon bushes don't start until the end of July. They are a welcome sight for humans and bees alike.     The heather is blooming too.  So delicate…..so wispy.   The bees are all over the tiny blossoms.    Some of our best blog posts are about reading.  I just finished ON FIRE by Larry Brown.  Kathy C, a knit buddy, gave it to me. I love the short chapters. I love the way Larry Brown talks to his reader.  This is a great read.  Not for the faint of heart.  I am knitting a baby sweater but it isn't this one. The Zimmerman sweater is darling but my knit nurse pal Diane says she has modified the pattern for the better.  I'm just knitting a top down baby cardigan.  I'll show it to you soon. While I was there I snapped a few photos.  I love the blue in the shawl.  Thats a whole lotta Yarn overs though.   One smart lady on borrowed time was knitting a baby sweater.  The gift is due next week.  She took the pattern out of the Aran Knits page and knitted the whole thing in garter.   Now why didn't I think of that?  I'm going to knit one … People are so creative and smart.  I love me some garter.  Garter you love it or you hate it?
