Day 18, 2015 Purposeful Pre Knitting

 I'm thinking about my next knit project.
I've decided to be a bit more thoughtful before I cast on anew.
Normally, I see a photo, get giddy with excitement, download the pattern and find out a few inches into it......this was not my idea of fun. 

So I'm trying to think through ATHENA by kate Ray before I commit. 

I have at least a day of knitting left on my little child vest. 

Naysayers, Please speak up! 
I'd love to hear your cons. 
I love to knit garter and I love to have a shawl.
I don't like lots of stitch markers and I have yet  to learn to pick up mistakes in garter.   
My class on fixing mistakes isn't for another month...
but that's what a yarn shops for right? 

I'm already thinking about how I didnt' like Lady Kina because I couldn't see all the stitches spread out on my needle....so
ahem, that's my first con..
 I doubt I'd see them all on this either...
 I dreamt I had to go to work and they moved the NICU to Target. 
It had a little dept. sign just like :automotive, electronics...only it was
neonatal....
I woke up very relieved.

I really like the looks of this pattern. Got me to thinking about knitting it and I'm not really a shawl person, but could become one with this. I like the the garter stitch and the ribbing most of all; although the striping is beautiful, too. Since you're a stripe person (Trap), and everything else you like, I'm sure you could knit a beautiful Athena!!

Such a pretty bird. I love the Cardinals!! I had a problem with picking up dropped stitches or fixing stitches in garter until I learned to use a crochet hook and pick up stitches from the back instead of the side facing me.

Katherine is right on the money wih the crochet hook. It is helpful to turn the work. To fix garter just remember to check the stitches around the stitch to be corrected: some corrections are done in the front and some in the back.

I love the shawl, but if you want to be able to see all of your stitches, perhaps a rectangular shawl would be a better knit for you. Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, that may not be a normal rib stitch, just saying. . .

I checked out the pattern on Ravelry - yes, the ribbed edge is a normal rib. From the photo above it looked a bit twisted. Having looked at the other photos on Ravelry, it does look like a pretty straightforward design, but you will probably not be able to see all your stitches in the needle.

Burst out laughing when I read about your dream. Your knitting is far more advanced than mine. I received a gift card this Christmas to a local yarn shop where I plan to take a few classes. I've always crocheted and knitting looks so difficult.

That dream is sort of like the ones about forgetting where your locker is in high school, or going to school and forgetting you had a test. I think pre-view knitting is the best. You can do anything you want, including the Lady Kina.

I love the shawl. I don't really know how to fix errors in garter stitch, but I have faked it fairly well in the past.

 Is that vague enough for you?  It has been a too busy complicated Spring.  I had no energy to blog.  All is well now, so I can share some things with you:   1. Insufficient Information

Dear buddy nurse and spay neuter pal Linda, came to visit yesterday.  We knitted. We laughed.  We shared books we are reading. She Showed me her scarf.  It looks like a shawl but it is a scarf. Here is her yarn choice. And the( OUCH) price.   It makes her happy to knit.  If Linda's happy I'm happy.  I dont' know the pattern and neither does she.  Her dog literally shredded her pattern.  She was at a point where she had memorized the easy part and she's nearly finished.  So there you go, anyone know the pattern? You are all so sweet about the move and the house.
