Knitathon in Norway Televised!

Norwegian TV is to broadcast a live knitting contest for hours on end.
The show, during which competitors will attempt to break the world record for producing a sweater - from the shearing of the sheep to the final stitch - airs minute-by-minute on 1 November. Several attempts to beat the Australian record of 4 hours 51 minutes have failed, programme producer Lise-May Spissoy told NRK TV's website. But she is enthusiastic about the Norwegian bid: "We've already earmarked the lamb for shearing, and are putting together the team of eight record-breakers - one will shear, while the rest spin and knit as fast as they can."

The things you can hear at midnight on talk radio are fascinating.  Coming home from work the other night I heard about the sky high ratings in Norway for this knitathon.
Apparently the winner made the man's sized sweater start to finish in just over 4 hours and broke the record.
HUH?  I'm hoping to knit Simple Chic's Weekend Pullover by Thanksgiving.  I don't even have the yarn yet.  I have to finish Fireman's Rosalyn colored socks and the baby poncho for a gift first.....
So I ask you: Can you knit a sweater in 4 hours?

Wow!! It takes me close to 4 months to knit a sweater. I suppose that if I didn't do anything else but knit I could reduce that time to one month or maybe even three weeks. The big problem is that when I am knitting I get tired of seeing and knitting the same thing after a while, and have to switch to another project. Am I the only one who does that?

Ha! I'm lucky to finish in a year! And I don't shear sheep either.

Oh Lord, I'm lucky if I finish a fourth of a sleeve of a sweater in that amount of time ... :-)

I knit a lot and according to some I knit quickly but a sweater in four hours -NO. more like at least 2-3 weeks.

I agree with Katherine, I get bored knitting the same thing continuously and therefore have a few projects going at the same time.
Maybe If my yarn was super super super chunky and I was knitting on rolling pins I could manage four hours...

I can knit a Baby Surprise Jacket in a weekend if that is all I do, but a full-sized sweater, no way!

If Nancy can't do it, it can't be done. I can't knit for four hours, so I'm no help at all.

I would have loved to have seen that. Why can't we get things like that on TV over here? I hear it got great ratings.
And no....I can't beat that record. I allow at least a year for a sweater-even more if it is Fair Isle or if I am spinning for it. I am a real slow poke.

Yayzu Christay.....I'm pretty sure I've never completely knit anything in just four hours....let alone a sweater! From sheep shearing to spinning to knitting....WOW! I agree with Araignee...why can't we get stuff like that on tv here?!
