Memorial Day Goings On

Our town holds a Memorial Day Parade and Service each year.  It was cold enough to wear my red/white/blue scarf today.

Our Friend and Vietnam Vet, Larry is partaking in a Memorial Day service for a friend of his who died in the war.  Now, years after Vietnam, his family was notified that a TOOTH that belonged to their soldier was recovered in Vietnam.

The tooth has been accompanied by US soldiers to his hometown.  This is all that family has of his body.  How wonderful that he is being honored with this tiny fragment of his body, in memory of his soul.

There is some knitting going on during the Holiday weekend.  The sock was not to be.
I must have ripped it back to the cuff 5 times trying to get the pattern I wanted right.

Then it hit me. This yarn needed to be a shawl.... after all.
NO wonder it was not co-operating with me.  Mizzle is the name of the pattern, Free on Ravelry .  I'm knitting and I'm loving it.

What's up on your Memorial Day?

I can not believe how cold it is today.
My parents were going to go to the parade that my nephew was in (he is 4, but my mother who has had two open heart surgeries and my father who had a stroke were just not up for being in the mist and with it as cold as it is.

I think I might do some knitting later too.

We are getting organized to head to a college reunion soon. It's pretty chilly here. That horse is really cute; do you know the pattern? I still am amazed that Beatle will do the leash-thing. You're right about the paralysis bit; I fell for it hook, line, and sinker, and never tried again.

I think it is so funny when yarn misbehaves because it want to be something else.
Hugs to you and glad you had the day off today,
Meredith

A much needed haircut and a long walk. They were my agenda items for today. Check off both!

Mizzle is on my list to do too. I even have the yarn.

Can't wait to see yours.

Packing for vacation . . . that's what I'm doing on the chilly Memorial Day! (Perfect day for knitting, though.)

What a sweet story!! I personally know how precious even a small token of a lost son or daughter can be!

This weekend has been one of rest and recuperation for me. No party or celebration just peace and calm!

I'm grateful for the closure for that soldier's family, and for those who are still bringing those remains home.

It's chilly here too, but that's good for trying to speed-knit a lace (summer) baby blanket. Not a stitch today, and I need to make up for lost time!

I had a doozy of a day. See my blog tomorrow for details, I don't want to spoil it.

Your Vietnam story gave me chills. For some reason, I have been
thinking a lot of the friends I lost to that war. I confess to shedding more that a few tears this morning while driving through our flag lined streets.

I spent the day sewing with my sister - we are working the same pattern and making great progress.

My latest knitting project has been started three times, so I'm hoping this time is the charm.

I LOVE that first photo, Kathy. A tooth... just a tooth, but full of honor and remembrance. Bless that family for their sacrifice and the brave soul who gave all.

I think ALL my yarns want to be shawls. hee hee. Love your R,W, & B one, too. blessings ~ tanna
