When the Knitter goes without hand knits....

I went without any handknits, yesterday.   Fireman and I wanted to  see the Kindlemarket downtown, In Chicago.
The Bean looked so beautiful above the ice rink in Millennium Park.
Let me tell you it was cold!  I wore my new winter parka from last year's supersale and it was wonderful.  I decided however that
I could knit a hat to go with it, as the hood is very large.  I then changed my mind and told Fireman I was going to knit a Baklava instead.  Headed into the wind on the long trek back to Union Station, my face was a freezing.
The German Market was charming charming charming.
The crafts were amazing and pricey.
The image on the top of the blog site is from one of the vendors.
We were headed for a special lunch, so we did not partake in the food at the Market.   I have to say I nearly snatched a bite of a potato pancake from a woman while she looked away, but I restrained myself.  They were also selling beer, brats, stollen,
pretzels, and something called
SolJanka soup that sounded very unique.
Pickles were part of the soup base.....
Have you ever???

Sounds like a wonderful adventure - almost like traveling to Germany. The beer, brat, and stollen would have been a pretty tasty lunch!

I would have asked for a sample taste of the soup. ;oD

Sounds FANTASTIC!!! You are stronger than I am because, special lunch or not, I could never pass a brat stand!! Our kids still talk about standing on a street corner in Bayreuth Germany eating brats after Christmas shopping with mom and dad. That is Christmas to them. Brats are brats, whenever and where ever. LOL!

I would love to go down and see the market.
It was a bit on the raw and chilly side yesterday.
I am sure that you enjoyed yourself though.
I walked through it once but I was with my sister and we had her two young boys who had just eaten under the tree and they were tired and cranky and we were trying to get to the train.
Perhaps this year.

I have heard of a Russian meat and veggie soup called Solyanka..... mabye they are the same but different? But it does have a salted brined cucumbers as a base.

During the summer we went to Michigan and walked thru a Bavarian village - I love the lederhosen!!!!!!

Great photo of the Bean! Where'd you get your ICE yarn? Sounds like you had a fun, but chilly, outing.

Oh those whacky Germans that put pickles in soup. LOL

German Christmas markets look like so much fun. My nephew lives in Leonburg, Germany and has posted many pictures of his favorites.

I'm not sure about pickle-based soup, but I could do with some brats and pretzels right about now!
