MY heart is full

I seem to be off the subject of knitting lately;....sorry. This picture was just taken at my mom's house. Today is my mom's birthday. When I look at my mom and my son Zach, my heart is so full it could explode. Both are gentle people who mean the world to me. Happy Birthday to mom although she doesn't do computers and will never see this. Zach we love you so much.

Last night after some shopping and wrapping and yes, napping, I got to my knitting. I just sat and knitted for an hour. What is it about this knitting that makes me relax? It was just what I needed. Knitting is such a gift to me. I am working on socks and the yarn is so soft and gorgeous. It is cranberry colored. I'll show it to you soon.

Is it the repetitive motion that calms me down,
is it the soft yarn,
is it the counting?
Is it in my genes?


Why is this knitting so good for me? I just know that it is. Why do you think it makes us so happy to knit???? I wonder what you think...

I call knitting my zen. Don't question why or how it works... just love that it does!

Kathy, beautiful picture of your son and your Mother, you must be very proud of him. Knitting calms me, takes my mind of all the craziness of life, makes me focus and the feel of the yarn is calming on a whole different level. I would be a mess without it and so I am sure glad I can knit or crochet fairly frequently.

What a lovely picture of your family! Knitting is my excuse to accomplish something when I would otherwise be doing nothing... like when watching (actually LISTENING) to tv, or riding in a car. It "redeems the time" for me. I love that what would otherwise be seemingly wasted time can be used for knitting socks.

Happy, happy birthday to your Mom.

I don't know what makes stitching so satisfying. Maybe it's that we have to think about the stitches and all those other things that we think about are pushed out of our thoughts.

Awww - great picture! I think we like knitting so much because it's something to occupy the hands, it's productive, and it gives us pleasure on so many levels (creative, tactile, productive, giving, loving, caring...) - that I think it's built into our DNA.

I really do think knitting is in the genes! I believe certain people need it, are good at it, have to have it. Add the addictive and calming nature of yarn and passion sets in.

Love the picture of your mom and son.

I find that it depends on the project. I find some soothing and others I have to pay more attention to and its' not as calming. I do find that knitting keeps me calm in a sometimes insane world.

Great photo, Kathy, and a Happy Birthday to your mom. Nice that you all could be together to celebrate! For me, knitting is usually a calming time, except when it's lace, and then it can be very uncalming......unless it's going well. Have a Happy Christmas!

I have said it again and again: knitting is my meditation. With yarn that feels good moving through your fingers, in a color that excites or soothes you --- it's dreamlike.

 Is that vague enough for you?  It has been a too busy complicated Spring.  I had no energy to blog.  All is well now, so I can share some things with you:   1. Dear buddy nurse and spay neuter pal Linda, came to visit yesterday.  We knitted. We laughed.  We shared books we are reading. She Showed me her scarf.  It looks like a shawl but it is a scarf. Here is her yarn choice. And the( OUCH) price.   It makes her happy to knit.  If Linda's happy I'm happy.  I dont' know the pattern and neither does she.  Her dog literally shredded her pattern.  She was at a point where she had memorized the easy part and she's nearly finished.  So there you go, anyone know the pattern? You are all so sweet about the move and the house.
