Here's one reason to try a Swap

This gorgeous recycled silk scarf was part of a recent swap I participated in. I cannot knit with that recycled silk without arm pain, but I adore the colors. This was part of a take it or leave it box that arrived from a Ravelry swap named Cuba. 10 people are organized into a swap group. One person starts the box and it ends with that same person. But the contents really change as the box makes its rounds. Take whatever you like and replace with something of equal or greater value.

There were many choices but this really caught my eye. I love it and it is a great reason to try a swap someday. This type of swap is less one on one with another knitter.

One problem with some swaps is that the suggested cost of the swap is often inflated by one of the swappers and then the other feels a bit guilty that they stayed in budget.

Overall my experiences have been very positive and I have made some good pretend friends from the swaps.

I did a swap once when the book One Skein came out. The deal was you had to send a skein (not expensive like cashmere or Quiviuk but not Lion Brand eyelash either) to your person for 2 months and then the 3rd month you had to send them something you made (preferably from the book). It was a secret too. I loved gifting and my person who picked me gave me 2 lovely skeins then she disappeared. I wasn't bummed about the lack of followthrough I was more worried about her and all she had to do was tell me.

What a beautiful scarf. And what an awesome idea for a swap. I've never heard of anything like that before, but it sounds perfect. Take only what you like or only what you can afford to replace - genius!

What a beautiful scarf! I'm glad it found you. I've had swap booms and busts, but about a year ago, I realized that I'd lost my swap joy. (I think it's with my sock mojo on a beach somewhere...)

Making new friends has been the best part of swapping for me. The goodies have been really nice but I like the friends the best. :)

A beautiful scarf and so pretty against the snow in the picture! I love swaps but time is a consideration. Every year that I did Sockapalooza I was late sending my socks to my knit partner and I am late for most swaps that I get involved in. As Estella pointed out, follow through is so important and that's the thing that is tough for me. Better not to play than to play badly!

i agree with you! I have had some very wonderful swap experiences, a few flakers but more often than not wonderful end results! And some good new friends from it as well.

Insufficient Information

Dear buddy nurse and spay neuter pal Linda, came to visit yesterday.  We knitted. We laughed.  We shared books we are reading. She Showed me her scarf.  It looks like a shawl but it is a scarf. Here is her yarn choice. And the( OUCH) price.   It makes her happy to knit.  If Linda's happy I'm happy.  I dont' know the pattern and neither does she.  Her dog literally shredded her pattern.  She was at a point where she had memorized the easy part and she's nearly finished.  So there you go, anyone know the pattern?
