A Mix of Sunday Thoughts

Image
Two cats in a box   An unexpected present in the mail! The newly painted dining room.  I give you: Sand Trap.  It took us 4 tries of paint sample jars to get it right.  I love this color.  It is not quite yellow or blush.  It is lovely and neutral and warm.  I think my pal Donna would say  it will lead to warm tones when I take pictures of people in the room. See Donna, I listen to you! I went to a work pal's party yesterday at a pottery shop.  We had so much fun.  I'll show you my masterpiece when it is fired and painted.   The great thing about my retirement is that I get to see the people I loved to work with in only fun environments now.  That's it for today's post.  Happy Sunday and Happy Grammy Awards

Saturday Sizing

Image
This is the sunflower sock on size 4 needles.  It made lovely stripes, but the heel flap join was too loosey goosey.  I finished the sunflower socks last night.  You can see that on size 2 needles the striping effect went away... I made a round toe finish.  In the end, they will fit and wear much better having been knit on smaller needles.  I Found that getting my STEPS in the Keys was a piece of cake.  Most days we hit 8,000 to 11,000 steps. Nice weather really makes walking a pleasure and not a chore.  It's Saturday and that means my new favorite TV show is on : Dr. Pol.  Do you watch this veterinarian? It is not for the squeamish. I want to visit his office.  I want to follow him for a day.  Happy Saturday!

Guilty Pleasures Friday

Image
I've run out of beach pictures.   I have not run out of sock yarn. Pie ran into the crinkle clown pants toy I got for the cats yesterday.  I missed the Ten on Tuesday prompt for Ten Guilty Pleasures this week.  I'll call this Ten on Friday... please join in with a guilty pleasure in the comments :) *an occasional nap *ordering something by mail *mexican coffee *getting a manicure *popcorn at the movies *mcdonalds....  french fries *treading water....in my neighbors pool I love just treading water  *going to see the horses at the stable nearby *bringing home fresh flowers in winter *watching the sunset on vacation

Of Skies and Cameras and Books

Image
I laughed all the way through this book by Jim Gaffigan.  I even laughed during some turbulence on the plane, while reading this book.  The Flight attendants had to take their seats for a bit.  I was happy to have this funny book with me. I am still not a huge fan of getting on the big bird, but I do it.     I wanted to show you the Key West Sunshine.  I found Key West too crowded and dirty for my liking this trip.  Is that a odd thing for someone from Chicago to say?  Chicago is kept clean, especially downtown where tourists are shopping.    I much prefer Marathon Key.    This is the sunset from the SUNSET GRILLE in Marathon. I love this place.  We watched the Superbowl from here.  People were drinking blue drinks out of goldfish type bowls.   I guess a little alcohol leads to creativity! Fireman has been intuitive lately. He asked me if I needed a ne...

.....Day 34, 2015 Home from The Keys

Image
We flew home from the Florida Keys today. Fireman and I had a wonderful week with our friends Larry and Sandy.  Sandy worked with me in the NICU before she retired (a year ahead of me).  This is Schwenke....that's his name. He was the dive master on a trip Fireman and I took.  I hadn't been diving since our honeymoon and I didn't want to dive.  I was a "bubble watcher" and went along for the ride.  Fireman had a wonderful time diving amid the reef with fish and turtles.  We loaded up on dramamine and even then I was texting AL from the boat about increasing my doses. It is great to have a daughter in the ER who can ask a pharmacist for advice....then my little question goes up to a satellite somewheres and comes back with an answer.  I had liberal coverage and despite some rolling seas, I was FINE.  I brought my sock knitting.  I had to ask Schwenke to be my guest blogger.  H...

Groundhog day

My favorite bill Murray movie is Groundhog Day.  I will watch it today or tomorrow! If you have never seen it, I wish you would watch it.  Phil 's transformation from a self serving weather news caster to a sweetheart of a human being is a real treat.  Much like my knitting, we do the same thing over and over until we get it right . I will be car knitting for a bit today.  My sock rerun is already back to the heel turn thanks to Super Bowl knitting yesterday. We have a foot of new snow in Chicago.  Schools closed again.  I think we will snowshoe later in the week. I like to close with a question...... I'm trying to get it right in the healthy eating department and now that I am retired it is easier. Are you trying to get something right that you seem to try time and time again?

Day 32 2015. Just words

So this promises to be an unusual post......I am having ahem, issues, with the photos this morning. Will you really read a picture less post from me? The pressure is on!  picture this: I didn't exactly frog my sock - I simply rewound back to the cuff last night.....that is from the toe. I was knitting on 4s and was unhappy from the heel flap to the gusset picket up a few days ago. I needed to go down to size 2 needles.  the best news is: I love the yarn! I am back on track. I had knit the cuff on 2s so it technically was not a frogging! How ever you DO this American fest called the Super Bowl I hope you get to knit a bit during the event. If you are getting the BIG snow, I hope you knit abit during the event.... What are doing this Super Bowl Sunday?  I will be knitting some socks.  That's a sure thing!
