The Night Before the Last NIGHT Shift!

Image
Seems Christmas keeps on coming here....and I am fine with it. (and here's a secret: I'm still listening to instrumental Carols ) This adorable kitty treat jar came from my pal Linda yesterday.  Linda and I are the OR assistants for our Vet at the shelter.  I've volunteered at things before in my life, but I have never had so much fun as I have there.  I learn something new often.   I guess the point is to volunteer at something you love.   Yesterday we operated on Mr. Pickles and Captain Wiggles.     I was forced to learn to make homemade bread as a kid.  Long story but the bottom line is, that my bread machine does just as good a job.  Winter and homemade bread..mmmmmmm.  This is called milk bread, if any of you want the recipe, just let me know.  This is the pattern I am going to follow for the Log Cabin for my family.  I was really surprised that none of you have ventured here......So we can learn ...

Happy 1.3.13

Happy fun numbers day. It is 1/3/13.  Since Fireman rides Engine 13 at Station 13 I told him to declare a holiday.  Here are my Cherry Tree Hill socks in progress.  Oh I love this yarn.  It is my first time with Cherry Tree hill yarn....it makes my stitches looks even it has a bit of give so it is painless to knit with it working up in a blotchless way...... I have always wanted to try this yarn... Look Out Lorna's Laces... Friend, and lurker Karen is knitting this adorable owl scarf. Can  you see the owls???  I love the yarn she is using.  Are you as wise as an owl when it comes to  Log Cabin Blankets ? I've decided that will be my next up project.  I want to knit one for my family.  I've tried twice in the past and failed for various reasons. Do you have any Log Cabin tips?  I have not purchased the yarn yet.   I think it will be my OFF night shift celebration purchase.... come ...

THERE ARE NURSE FLOATS AND THERE ARE FLOAT NURSES

Image
Did you see the Nurse Float in the Rose Bowl Parade. I was proud.   I am approaching my 30th anniversary of being a nurse and working as a nurse.  So here is my big news for 2013......after one more night shift, This Saturday, I am done with nights.  In addition to Nurse Floats, there are Float Nurses. I am becoming a Float nurse on Sunday.  This mean I will have tremendous flexibility with my scheduling.  I will FLOAT between intensive baby care, Newborn baby care and Pediatric baby care. It will be different for me.  It won't feel comfortable for a bit.  I have given it much thought.  Fireman is all for it, which is hugely helpful.  So there you have it.  Nurse Floats and Float Nurses.  And to celebrate we'll have a contest ... AFTER Saturday nights last night shift.   Happy New Work Year to ME

HAPPY NEW YARN ......or YEAR

Image
Nothing like unexpected Yarny goodness for the New Year.  Nancy (Wyoming Breezes) sent this gorgeous yarn to me.  I entered her contest and I wasn't even a winner and she sent  this soft fun skein to me.  Oh it is going to be a wonderful hat. The first hat of my new year.   Thanks sweet Nancy! A co-worker Nurse friend of mine gave me this yarn bowl on Sunday night shift.  I nearly cried.  Her husband throws pottery and made it just for me.   It is so beautiful.   I' have always wanted one, but was too cheap to buy one.......... What a way to ring in the new Year.   New yarn and New Yarn bowl.   I do resolutions. I know some of you do not.   I completely respect the no resolution group.  I really do.  I make them for fun.  Here are my New Year resolutions: * I will see the Northern Lights this year.  (At least once a year the weatherman/person says we can catch them in C...

Last FInish of 2012

Image
This is how the Beatle Bug lays on Fireman daily.   He is the most relaxed cat we have ever known....I just love him so. Using up the stash at 2012 year's end: for these fingerless gloves for Al.  The thumb business I thought was an error actually worked out fine.  This gives me hope that I can make real gloves with fingers.  In the past the finger join messed with my knit head.  I think I finally get it without a pattern telling me how to do it....This is nothing short of a Christmas miracle... I won't recap all my knits this year.....but I have knit many things and better yet, given many away.   I stash busted big time.  Thanks for riding along with me this YEAR!!!  Those who leave me comments make my every day.  Those who lurk, keep on coming back.   IT is the workend.  I have big news about that coming up and a contest to celebrate.   I do make resolutions so they will be in my next post....

New Discoveries

Image
We have been blessed with a gorgeous little snow.  Winter wonderland oh yeah!  Gone are the dreary dark days. Our festivities were so joyful.  I am in a very good tired place.  I'm always late to the party but just in case you missed these products too, I have some great news. I absolutely love the fake candles.  Santa brought me this one pictured above.  I don't have to write notes to myself about how many are lit.  I don't have to worry about the house burning down from a candle!  Genious I say, these are genious. Did you know, dear knit pals, that Carmex makes a hand lotion. Oh yes they do and it is wonderful.   It is soothing and healing to my dry winter nurse skin.  Bring on the silky yarn...!! And finally, perhaps best of all: Santa brought me Cuddl Duds.  Oh my gosh. Do you own this fantastic long underwear?  WE'll call it that, but it is so much more beautiful than your run of t...

The Christmas Wrap Up
