B's on Wednesday

Okay I'm back on blogger.  Clapping, relief and joy!

Some of you already saw my little ONLINE hat.  Simple simple simple.  I don't like the yarn.  Can't really say why.  Just doesn't feel right.

Then again, I'm working with Peruvian alpaca now so anything is inferior.  If I can I will load my pattern photo of the alpaca scarf.

My bee busy mind was thinking of keeping bees here in the country.  The world needs more beekeepers.  I'm leaning towards no now. I"ve talked to a few who keep bees and they say it is a costly hobby.  I don't need a costly hobby.

The nice part was that Fireman loves honey and he was not protesting the plan at all.  What are your thoughts ?  I want to help the bees without necessarily being a beekeeper.

I think a nice pair of dwarf angora buns would be less work, less money and more fun.

Just dreaming.  The country air is good for my head.

Thoughts?  bees?  Buns?  books?

Wow, you have a lot going on there in the country. No wonder your mind is buzzing with bees and things. I also have heard that beekeeping is expensive but honey lovers would tell you it's worth it! I love little bees as long as they bee-have and leave me alone. Your hat is beautiful and colorful. Books? I'm currently reading Marcia Clark's latest courtroom procedural, Blood Defense.

A friend's husband has bees - about four hives. They keep him busy, checking them, preparing the supers, extracting the honey, finding people to use the honey, preparing the hives for winter. There's a lot of work involved. I'd advise Fireman to help someone for a while to see if it's what he really wants to do.
Bees are a lot of money, and a fair amount of work (come harvest time).
if you want to help bees, but not keep them, plant a garden made to attract pollinators... there's lots of resources on the internet, but here's a quick list for a start (ones I have in my garden)
Lilac
Hyacinths
Bee Balm
Pincushion Plan
Lavender
Columbine
Cone Flowers (and there are many, many types)
Foxglove
Liatris
Speedwell
Sedum (this is especially important in the fall - it's one of their last sources before winter)
ANother tip is to not mow/weed your lawn too much. Bees love dandelions (one of their early sources in spring) and clover which usually grow in lawns.

Buns are a lot of work too. But, they ARE awfully cute.

Glad you got back on Blogger. Did you figure out what was causing your problem or did it just start working again?

I'd begin your experiment in country living by getting a pair of bunnies. They are easy to care for and fun to hold. Bees are pretty complicated. But I agree if you want to help the bees.. plant bee attracting plants. Love that hat! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Love the hat - gorgeous! A guy I work with keeps bees in his home state of Alabama. I'll ask him about how expensive (money & time-wise) it is. He travels a lot for work, so I'm thinking maybe his bee-time would be weekends only, but not sure.

Beautiful hat! I've also heard that bees are very com,I cater to care for but raising the plants they love could be a great alternative.
Blessings,
Betsy

Adorable hat! Bees, bunnies....? We thought about goats when we moved here but we couldn't even keep up with the inside pets.

I concur with Wandering Cat; you can plant a bee garden. I'm not a fan of bunnies as pets so I'm no help there. Sorry.

It is a commitment of time and money but most animals (insects) are, right?!
The hat turned out cute!

I would have bees if I was younger and stronger so I have a very bee friendly garden instead.
You could check your local beekeeper association to see if anyone would want to put bees on your property while they would do the maintainence. A sort of rent a hive.
I love the hat and colors.

I think Bees should be fireman's new hobby and yarn should continue to be yours!
