Smiling IRish Eyes

Someone at my LYS was knitting the Eyelit Cardi in Red.
She had just begun.  The store had a sample and that's what you see above.  For snicks and because I'm cheap I looked up the yarn to see what this sweater would cost the knitter.  Turns out Silky Wool retails for under ten dollars a skein.

This means you can knit a fifty dollar sweater if you wear a size small.  I did feel the sample and it was not wooly but it didn't feel terribly soft either.   Now it is knit in the round in one piece with raglan shaping.  I liked it.  Not enough to knit it, but to share anyhow!

This ragged haired irish girlie is my only decoration for St. Patrick's Day.  My mom and I were laughing when I visited the other night because she and I never liked corned beef and cabbage.
Yet she made it for my father, using a crock pot recipe.
While she doesn't know who I am, often, she knows my voice and my cadence and my laughter is familiar to her.
I brought the staff irish soda bread this week.  Her little Irish eyes were smiling and that's enough for me.

Sweet comments about your Mom. I love that she recognizes your voice, laugh, etc. Gosh! I have not had corned beef and cabbage in years. My Mom used to make it (tho none of us are Irish). My hubby has some Irish blood...maybe I should make it for him...tho I think he is planning to leave on the 17th for a guy get-together camping thing down on the Outer Banks (yes, I am jealous).

It is so sweet that you bring treats for the staff. I'm sure that makes their day!

I'll bet the staff as well as your mom look forward to your visits! Cute sweater, too. I hear it's been warm out your way? Our neighbor's kids favorite meal was corned beef! So, I asked how she cooked it; she roasted it with pickling spices. Makes a huge difference.

Pleased to hear that your visits with your Mom have lots of laughter and twinkling eyes.

Love the cardigan, but doubt I've ever knit a sweater for myself.

I just bought the corned beef and cabbage this morning. I don't do the corned beef but I love cabbage. I'll make soda bread tomorrow. The Mister is a Daugherty so you know we do St. Patrick's Day up right around here. I've had jigs on Pandora all week!

Cute sweater, but to expensive for me! I would never fit in a small. No big St. Patrick celebration for us and I've never liked corned beef and cabbage. I do love the description of your visits with your Mom. You're definitely in her mind and she loves you.
Blessings,
Betsy
I've often thought if only I were a sz small it would be quicker and less expensive to knit really cool sweaters but alas....I'm more the eat soda bread type. LOL I'm glad you can still find joy in your visits with your mom and can still share those precious memories with her. :-)

What a happy moment when your mum recognizes your laugh. I always tabulate how much it would cost to make a jumper. I can slightly cheap but figured in the end with adjustment to what yarn I use it'll be worth it. We're eating at my mum's this Saturday; she's making corned beef and cabbage. My paternal grandmother, not the best cook in general but she did make good poached eggs for me, used to make it and to tell you the truth, I never really enjoyed it, but I have hope that my mum, who's a way betta cook, will have a success and tasty outcome. The corned beef is coming from Costco though. And thank you again for sharing about your family memory around the dinner table.

I actually like corned beef and cabbage and it's on our menu for St. Patty's day. You're lucky your mom knows you at all.. mine didn't know us for a long time before she passed away. I'm glad you get to see her a lot.. you will be very glad you did so. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
That cardigan is cute - may have to knit that one!
Adorable bunny!

I will eat a Reuben sandwich....
I don't like the idea of spending too much on one project because I like to do so many!

Love your little Irish girlie!

We had smoked pork butt and cabbage instead of corned beef. It was one of my favorite meals growing up.
