Monday Meme March 28 2016

It can be done.  I finished my first Wildhorse Farm Designs Rococo Sock yesterday.
I need a little mind break, so the second sock is on hold.
Koigu rocks.

Today's Monday Meme is rather random.

*Does your knitting reflect your address?
In other words, if you live in a wonderfully warm climate do you knit warm wooly hats and scarves?

* Do you love your home?
Do you plan to move in the next ten years?

*If you don't have the luxury of a nearby yarn studio,
what are your go to's  for mail order yarn companies?

*Is there a knitted or crocheted blanket being used in any room of your home today?

*Are your windows open today?

*Have wool pests ever invaded your knitting in your home?

*Can you view the sunset from your home?

My answers:

My location does influence my knitting because as the seasons change I knit differently.  And we have all 4 seasons.
And winter is the longest.
And I'm ready to be done with this one!
I choose lighter colored yarns in spring and summer for sure.

There are things I love about this home, primarily the screened porch, but it is old and we cannot live here forever.  Fireman is great at repair and remodel but after 33 years we would like less maintenance.

I have the luxury of nearby yarn shops!
Still, I enjoy Simplysock yarns site and getting mail.

There is a blanket in the family room that gets all kind of use.
It may be at the end of its life.
My mother crocheted the blanket on my bed and I use it every night.   As she fades, it is a warm reminder of her old self.

Windows are closed here today.  I cannot wait for a day this week when I can open them up!

I had one episode of moths chewing some wool.
It freaked me out.
I know keep most yarn in a big plastic bin with a tight lid.
I hate the smell of moth balls. I won't use them.
And well, Fezzik would chew all the wool in this house if I left any of it out, but he's no pest!

I have a terrible view from this house.
I would love a view of the sunset .
We are crammed next to neighbors and live on a busy street.
I would love a view of the sky and the landscape in my next home.

What a great pair of socks.
I am a bit afraid of DPn's hence I have never done socks.
We have been in out place almost 18 yrs. (we bought it shortly before we got married).
My parents live in a place that they have had for 20+ years but it is not where they really would like to live because the house that they raised us the foundation fell and well my sister and her family bought the land and built a house on the property. It was a house that 9 could live in comfortably and now my sister's place is a house where 7 can live comfortably (I am the oldest of 7 siblings and my sister has 5 children).
I do not see us moving anytime soon.

I have an afghan that was made by my father's cousin (she was also his secretary. She gave it to me when I graduated from high school. This woman passed about 7 yrs ago. I have it on our bed every night. It is a comfort. She was very special to everyone in my family. She made an afghan for each of my siblings too when they graduated high school. What a special treat.

Hopefully the weather around here will turn warm for a bit this week so perhaps opening the windows will be in order.

*Is there a knitted or crocheted blanket being used in any room of your home today? There is one in most every bedroom and living area and they all get used regularly.

*Are your windows open today? Nope. It snowed this morning, but it's supposed to be in the 60's by the weekend. Yippee!

*Have wool pests ever invaded your knitting in your home? Nope.

*Can you view the sunset from your home? Yes. And Mt. Spokane is the view from our back deck.

Blessings,
Betsy
Still too cold to have the windows open here - hopefully in a week or two!

Your lace sock is admirable! In my 65 years I have moved fifteen times, so I dare not think I will never move again :) I have knit and crocheted blankets each with their own sweet memories that I use on a regular basis in my living room. I try to shop locally for yarn, but have ordered yarn from a variety of sources on line, or picked up a skein here and there on trips...so no favorite. I can scarcely believe it, but we are predicted to have a week of sunshine! It is still cool enough that I don't have windows and doors open for long but it is such a treat when I do. No mothballs here and my yarn is tucked here and there in baskets...I live dangerously? Happy week! xx

Fancy sock Kathy! You just turned that one out so quickly! Now I know why you couldn't talk in that last post, hehehehe.

Beautiful sock! Hurry and make a pair!

*Does your knitting reflect your address?
No, I knit whatever I feel like knitting-I have warm weather shawls that work because of all the a/c down here, and feet get cold and always need a pair of socks. Hats and scarves go to Northern family!

* Do you love your home?
Do you plan to move in the next ten years?
No, we are in the final home of our lives-it is my dream house!

*If you don't have the luxury of a nearby yarn studio,
what are your go to's for mail order yarn companies?
All yarn shops are at least an hour away. I order from Webs and from KnitPicks.

*Is there a knitted or crocheted blanket being used in any room of your home today?
Yes, several. I made one about 20 years ago still in a loved state. I have several baby afghans from my gram...almost 40 years old!

*Are your windows open today?
No, it's too warm out in the afternoons! Mornings they can be opened for an hour!

*Have wool pests ever invaded your knitting in your home?
Yes, I had some skeins given to me and they came with 'guests'! Raid to the rescue!

*Can you view the sunset from your home?
Yes, I see both sunrise and sunset!

*Does your knitting reflect your address? I've never really thought about it, but I guess it does - scarves, shawls, socks, hats, and lots of warm baby items.

* Do you love your home? Do you plan to move in the next ten years? Yes, I love my home and plan to live here until I can't live by myself anymore.

*If you don't have the luxury of a nearby yarn studio, what are your go to's for mail order yarn companies? No LYS so I order from KnitPicks, WEBS, Simply Socks, and Loopy Ewe.

*Is there a knitted or crocheted blanket being used in any room of your home today? No - all have been given away.

*Are your windows open today? No, it's cool here today and a BIG storm will be here tonight and will drop some snow 1 - 2 feet expected here in the valley.

*Have wool pests ever invaded your knitting in your home? Not that I've noticed.

My knitting should reflect Texas due to the extreme heat in summer and warmer winters, but knitting-wise my heart is still in Chicago. I knit things for colder climates and then wonder what to do with them.

We love our little cottage and do not intend to ever move. My mother always said "Never say never."

In terms of yarn, I am a mail order only knitter! If I go to a yarn shop and can get my hands on the yarn to pet it, I go crazy buying. With online purchases I only buy what I need for a project.

There are three afghans in our living room and at this moment there are two dogs on two of them. At least they left one for me.

We never open our windows. Allergies!

I've never had a problem with wool pests but my yarn contains a lot of dog hair!

We can see beautiful sunsets from our kitchen window I've always wished we could see the sunset from the patio.

I'm so glad you have a wonderful blanket from your Mom. It's like getting a hug from her every time you use it.

1. We, too, have all 4 seasons (thank goodness!!). I tend to work with wool and heavier weight yarns in the fall and winter – scarves, fingerless mitts, cowls, etc. Spring and summer knitting have me leaning more towards linen (but that takes FOREVER to knit and silk. Now that I’m into knitting socks I guess I will be using wool year round…at least it is fingering weight.
2. I do love my home…we moved here when I was pregnant with our son many, many moons ago. However, I do not like our neighbors, I do not like how built up the area has become and I really don’t want to face the bathroom remodel which is definitely necessary.
3. There is one local yarn shop nearby, but I don’t really care for it or the people who run it. I need to check out another shop about an hour away (if I can go over there once a week for yoga, certainly I can travel over there on a Saturday to check out yarn). The internet makes shopping so easy. And, then too, the fiber festivals – MD Sheep & Wool in 4-5 weeks!! Been saving my pennies.
4. There is a knit one on a chair in the living room. My son uses a blanket I crocheted when I was in college and a blanket that was knit for him when he was born!
5. Windows are open, but it is very, very windy…I may need to close them down a bit.
6. I have not had pests get to my yarn, but I have had moths in clothes (some holes in Icelandic sweaters my mom knit for us).
7. Yes! We can view the sunset from the living room and the sunrise from the kitchen.
Another fun meme Kathy – thanks. And, love your latest sock – it is gorgeous!

1. Sure does. I am all about wool in winter and lace in summer.
2. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't. The woods make a lot of work.Trees are dirty. We can't stay here as oldies. Too much work.
3. No LYS. I collect at festivals or at Knit Picks or at Webs or on Etsy.
4. I use my prayer shawl as a blanket all day long. It's huge. I have one crocheted throw in the living room but it's too heavy for me. Decoration only.
5. Windows were open but my goodness, the wind is terrible.
6. I've had moth holes in knitwear from time to time and found beetles in the stash once. No fun there.
7. Yep. I watch it out the front window everyday-through the trees in winter. I won't see it much longer.
The sock is fabulous, darling!
1. Yes. I don't need the heavier knits here.
2. Just moved here and I love it! Hope I never have to leave!
3. Love shopping the festivals in the area and also order from Knit Picks and Amazon
4. Yes....love knit and crochet blankets....have them in every room.
5. We can have windows open in the winter here but now the air is on.
6. Once a long time ago and it was awful!
7. We have the most beautiful sunsets and sunups here that we can view right from the porches. It's wonderful!
Nice sock btw.

I love these, you ask great questions.
1. No, I knit whatever strikes my fancy. I love heavy knits but can seldom wear them here.
2. I love the house, hate the place. I would move back East tomorrow if it was possible.
3.No fave. I just buy it when I see it.
4. Several. I have one to cover my legs on the couch and several of the dogs have knit blankies.
5. My windows are almost never open. The allergens here are too aggressive. See answer #2
6. No unless you count a teething puppy.
7. No but we see some gorgeous sunrises.

First off, mahalo nui loa for your wonderfully sweet comments on my podcast post. You made my heart sing.
1. I am always knitting fall and winter knits I'm afraid. But Kat Riddell got me to fave some lighter tops b/c of the cute outcomes she has. I should get one in this year.
2. Well, we just moved last summer and have a 30 year mortgage. Our home is small but is a cute space. I love our cul-de-sac; it's quiet and safe + our neighbors are terrific. I love it in the 'burbs and who would've thought me, a city girl born and bred, would be convinced to move elsewhere.
3. I've been good, usually only buying yarn only at STITCHES West and for my birthday month. Although I may enhance my stash in May, using Mother's Day as an excuse. I did used to order from Knit Picks as their low prices can't be beat. I've ordered from Paradise Yarns which is a good company as it's Google insured and they have a delivery/customer service guarantee. I do miss not being close to a LYS.
4. I haven't crocheted or knitted a blanket for the ohana. But my girls use crocheted ripples made by my maternal grandmother. I had bought yarn for her to hook with in colors that the girls picked out themselves so she would have something to do.
5. We only open the windows when it's hot here. Summer for sure; we'll be learning how it is this spring.
6. No, my knits are kept in a dresser drawer.
7. No on seeing sunsets.
