A Sock Mistake from one who Knows Better

This is a potential sock.  I started the VESTIGIAL sock pattern, a Hedgehog fibers pattern that was gifted to me. The leg is a simple two row repeat.  I do like the look of the leg.
During the gusset I realized this is not going to work with this yarn.
This is not a sock yarn and I should know better, but I was tricked by it's pretty pastel magic into thinking it could be a sock.
So
I could rip it back to the leg and make it fingerless.
I could rip the whole thing out...but that's just painful.
I could sit on it and work on the never ending sock leftover blanket until the answer comes to me.

The goldfinches are super hungry.
The birds seem thrilled with the milder temps.
I know I was..
today's freezing.
All Y'all who live in the warmer parts of the US,
keep those pictures coming on your blogs.
You are helping me believe that Spring is right around the corner.

I hate it when that happens, I try to make yarn into something it does not want to be. The yarn always wins out. We practice fire drills everyday. He makes the loud sound, we run out to the street and wait for him to make the all clear bell. He would do 20 a day if I let him!
Hugs to you Kathy B,
Meredith

It's a shame that the yarn didn't work for socks. The sock in progress sure was pretty.

Oooh pretty yarn! It reminds me of sherbet. :-) I'm sure it will tell you what it wants to be in time. And I'm right with you on spring. We'll have a couple of beautiful days, like today, and then we have freezing temperatures again. I'm so anxious for flowers to bloom and yet I know it's only the middle of March. Have a lovely weekend.
Blessings, Betsy

Pretty yarn - perhaps leg or arm warmers? I like the idea of fingerless mitts, too.

It's cold and dreary here today and even trying (not very hard) to snow, too.

Leg warmers or mitts would be great but I have to say that I just finished two pairs of socks in worsted weight yarn and they are both wonderful! I wear them like slippers, but I did slip my clogs on over a pair last week when the weather was cooler and I had to go out. I think your beautiful yarn could still make a lovely pair of socks!
The yarn knows what it wants to be - leave it for a while and it will let you know too.

The sun is finally out in our city. It was just grey skies and mid-50's when I ran. But it was warmer during the week; yesterday was almost 80. Sorry the yarn won't work for a sock. Is it because there's no nylon in it?

Such a pretty yarn. I'm sorry it's not working as socks but whatever project you choose will be lovely in those soft colors.

I have a ripped-back sock sitting in my basket, waiting to be turned into fingerless mitts. But I can't seem to find the mojo to pick it up and remake it

We are supposed to get snow this weekend. I don't believe it but they keep saying it.
Too bad about the sock. I've done that many times myself. I bought a ton of Chroma thinking it would be good socks but it's not.

That yarn is very pretty.. I agree on it being like sherbet ice cream. How about using it for a hitchhiker scarf? We've got all kinds of flowers here.. hope they come there soon. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

What's our state bird doing in your yard?! LOL Sound to me like fingerless mitts is the least painful solution to the non-sock issue. Such a pretty yarn!

It always sucks making a mistake like that, but we all do it sometimes. Fingerless mitts isn't a bad idea!
