What I've Learned Knitwise in 2016

One of the things I've learned in my knit world this new year,
is that fun trick with the crochet hook for weaving your sock toes without that dreaded kitchener.

Another thing: My wrists love a SSK or SSP over a K2Tog.
I don't have to wrangle those stitches together and twist when I slip slip.
It took me 12 years to discover these things.
Part of the discovery is the confidence to substitute what a pattern calls for.  I was too timid, too unsure, too uptight to improvise with a pattern.
I plan to finish my cowl in Madelinetosh worn denim today.
One of the reasons I frogged the shrug : the stitches got stuck at the circ needle join on the drop wrap row.  (see picture one)
There are no snags at the join, but the stitches were stuck like a traffic jam and it required lots of pulling on my part.
We all know I have to like the knitting part to carry on.

In cat news: Pie has claimed the little hooded bed I brought home last week.
In the kitchen: last nights dinner was saved, enhanced and blessed with Beer Bread.  I forget about good old beer bread.  3 cups self rising flour, 3 tbs sugar and a can of beer.  Stir. Bake at 350 one hour.   Really yummy taste.

Have you learned anything craft wise in the first two months of 2016?

Regarding beer bread: is any type of flour self-rising or is it special magic flour? And what kind of beer did you use?

I've always used any brand of self rising flour. I used a can of beer that is brought to room temp before I add it. good luck!

I've learned to quit knitting on a project that just "doesn't LOOK right". Don't keep going because when you get to the end ...............it just ain't RIGHT!

Oh that bread! I haven't had breakfast yet and it looks delicious. I, too, have gotten a bit braver when substituting stitches. I remember when I first learned to knit, an older lady literally yelled at me in public because I was doing it "wrong?" And just what was I doing wrong? Holding the yarn in my left hand instead of my right like she did. She actually said I would never make anything worth using/wearing if I continued knitting that way.

I hope I always encourage others to be creative. After all, it's knitting! It's supposed to be fun. Have a lovely day!
Blessings,
Betsy

Yum! I have to try the beer bread! Craftwise, I have learned that I love the adult coloring books. I don't know what you are supposed to do with them after the coloring is done but I sure enjoy walking past it and stopping to dab a bit of color here or there with the big twist-up crayons. I must be going through my second childhood!
I have learned that I probably need to try some beer bread making as I have now seen two posts in two days talking about it! I have also learned that I need to figure out a better way to do my stitching work! xx

Mmmmm.....beer bread. Never heard of it. Must try it-as soon as I get to the place in my new diet where I can trust myself around baked goods.
New things craft wise? I could write a book on what I have learned about making cards since those awful Christmas cards I made. Thank you YouTube. Next year will be stellar. I hope. I also learned heaps on making sweaters fit from my new Craftsy class. Maybe I'll get one in 2016 that I can actually wear.

I have not heard of this beer bread, color me intrigued! New things craft wise? I begrudgingly understand the advantages of having a provisional cast on. I've also learned a little more about sweater patterns in general.

I love bread...any bread. I can imagine the smell of this toasted with a lot of butter!
I learned a new trick at the quilt show yesterday about using my Accuquilt cutter!

I've learned that the smallest thing can turn a project I loved and was excited about into the project from hell! I'm with you on a sticky join - can't stand that and will abandon ship in a heartbeat rather than soldier on. That bread looks delicious!

Mmm! Beer Bread...my mommy brain can't pull anything up right now. Oh wait...I am liking this new way I found on Pinterest to not have donkey ears while kitchenering a sock toe. I used it on my mum's first sock and what a difference.
