In a Quandry

Al mentioned she wanted a granny blanket like the famous Ann's in Parks and Recreation.
We reviewed crochet basics at Christmas.
I decided to crochet some squares for charity as a test run.
I got my crochet pants on and was sailing along until

the arm pain hit last night.

I know you warned me.
My bubble has burst.

Here's my current plan which is subject to changes at whim:

I'll keep crocheting a square a week for the charity squares. To keep in practice.
I looked up how to weave in all those color change ends in a colorful granny and I know I could do it.

Al says she'll make her own someday and not to feel bad.

If I was able to make one a week for her it would happen.
But we all know I can't do a project like that.
Its full steam ahead or nothing for me.

Back to light little knits for me.
Now I have that twitchy feeling because I don't know what to knit next.....

Sorry to hear about the arm pain - nothing can bring a project to a screeching halt faster than pain.

Nooooo! I feel your pain. :( maybe try a variety of needle sizes? Sometimes switching to a larger needle helps.

I'm so sorry! I won't say what you said not to say because it is so sad! I can't crochet at all. Within 30 minutes my hands and wrists begin to feel like Dr. Frankenstein attached them. I will stick with knitting--and then only with a needles size 9 and under. When I get up to a size 10 or 11 knitting needle the pain starts. I could never knit with a size 17.

I'm much better at crochet than knitting.. but I like to be able to do both. How about you doing a Hitchhiker scarf?
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Oh dang. Sorry the arm pain hit you. I forget...is is recurring or just happened from the crocheting? Mayhap just a delay then? Or if it's really serious and an old issue, acupuncture?

I can't crochet! Number one - I don't know how. But the times I've done a chain and tried to crochet - it kills my wrists.....
Hmmm, what to knit next? I'm doing the zick zack scarf - which I'm loving. Slow going on it - even though it is only one row in the pattern... But it is turning out so pretty!

How horrid for you to be in pain, I hope that it goes soon. Take things carefully in the meantime! xx

I can't crochet in the round. When I do it is never round but oval and wobbly. I had the same problem with wrist pain though when I crocheted charity blankets for the elderly. I love Ali's inspiration, but I think when I make blankets, charity or otherwise, I'll stick with Nancy in the knitting.

I'm so sorry to hear about the pain you have when you crochet. I've never experienced that, but maybe if you switch to one of those ergonomic hooks it would be better for your hands and arms. Meanwhile small knits like scarves would be good. The hitchhiker that Teresa talked about or simple garter stitch is always fun, especially if you change colors. I like to have a stockpile of washcloths for little gifts for hostess gifts and just surprise things I need. Have fun!
Blessings, Betsy

Hope your arm is feeling better soon. A bit of ibuprofen maybe? Rest? Ice?

Oh, no. That's too bad because that afghan is a beauty. My poor crochet project is languishing as well. I can't seem to find the time.

Poor you! What to knit? Socks are always a good bet. I hope you feel better soon! Thanks for sharing!

Not good at all that arm pain, that afghan would have been so much fun. Rest now and you can knit later, even though that is hard you don't want to make it worse.

It's too bad that we can't crochet for hours like we can with knitting...
I like to get projects done and while your block a week seems good sense it does ruin momentum! Find a KAL and have fun-Ravelry will have ton to inspire you!

I hope you can still work on it gradually; it would be a great gift for Al. You might have to think of a granny square as a brief commercial as you blast ahead on another project.

Ew! So sorry to hear about the crochet-pain. I wonder what it is that causes that? It seems like you're not alone either; it makes my hands ache, too. I guess one block a week would give you plenty of time to sew in all the ends though. (Sewing in ends makes me crazy!)
