The second post of the day because Carole Knits prompt is literary!

Carol's prompt is too tempting. Here are my ten first lines from books I like:

1. It is many years now since he first visited the Monastery, though the details of that day linger quietly in his memory.
(In the Spirit of Happiness...THe Monks of New Skete)

2. Among the popular entertainers and traveling acts in eighteenth-century America were performers known as electricians.
(STORM KINGS American's First Tornado Chasers)

3. Anyone who has ever been to Alaska remembers the light.
(Running North A yukon Adventure by Ann COok)

4. Our hero was not one of those Dominican cats everybody's always going on about-he wasn't no home-run hitter or a fly bachatero, not a playboy with a million hots in his jock.
(The Brief and Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, by Junot Diaz)

5. The death of someone we love dearly cracks us open. (Permission to Mourn, a New way to do Grief.

6. As a lazy July sun rose over the Atlantic Ocean, a long gray and white seagull flew toward the pristine sands of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
(Foal Play by Kathryn o'sullivan)

7. If Lia had been born in Laos, her mother would have squatted on the floor and pulled the baby out of her womb with her own hands.
(The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down)

8. "Christmas won't be Christmas without any presents" grumbled Jo. (Little WOmen )

9. "Kidnapping Children is never a good idea. All the same sometimes it has to be done."
(Island of the Aunts)

10.“It’s a funny thing about mothers and fathers. Even when their own child is the most disgusting little blister you could ever imagine, they still think that he or she is wonderful.”
(Matilda, Roald Dahl"

THAT WAS FUN.  I realize so many bookS I love are not on my shelves anymore.  I cannot find their first sentences.  But I shall try at the library again some time this cold boring winter!

You've got some excellent ones! My kids are grown so I haven't thought about Roald Dahl in years, but this first line from Matilda is great.

Quite the intriguing first sentences! I'm reading an interesting book called "Martin Marten" by Brian Doyle.. it's one of the most interesting books I've read! It's about a boy and a pine marten that are both trying to find their way in the world. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
