Small Joys

Yesterday, Fireman and I popped over to Lake Michigan with our chairs for a bit.  I didn't want to get all sandy, so we sat in the shady grass.
These are the BEST days in Chicago my friends.
Low 80s and no humidity.
I've been working on my baby blanket.
I can finally show it to you as it is finally growing.
Oh dear, I cannot find the pattern.
You cast on about 180 stitches and place a marker and cast on another 180 and place a marker.  Then you knit and knit and knit and use up all your sock yarn leftovers.  When you get to the marker, on one row you knit, the next you slip.
This makes the tube you are making lay flat on the edges.
The most difficult thing about this pattern is the way you have to choose colors that play nicely with one another.
LUCKILY, Kim D. sent me this color grid helper a few months ago.
It really helps me.  KIM thanks!
Here is my clover bush that is almost 5 feet tall in the alley.
  1. The bees love it.
  2. See it is not just grass clover...or maybe it is ...
  3. on steroids.
  4. What do you think?
So sock yarn and clover and the weather report.
That's all I have for you today!
Small joys!

Oooo a color grid! What a great help when mixing those sock yarn tidbits. I love your colors because I especially like colorful baby blankets. I've done the white, pink, blue thing to distraction.

I love your big clover with the tiny purple flowers!

I love the color grid...what a helpful thing to have. Beautiful Lake Michigan....same weather here in W. Michigan too. We have had some perfect beach days.

That's a great shot of the lake, boat and umbrella. Sounds like a nice restful time there. That will be a nice warm blanket. That plant now looks different.. clover is low growing with shamrock leaves. Hmmm. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I can't get over how much Lake Michigan looks like the ocean - absolutely beautiful! There's nothing like a day at the beach. Your knitting is lovely - great colors. Can't wait to learn how to knit though it looks very complicated.

Small joys, fabulous joys. I'm intrigued by this knitting pattern. But I don't have time/space for another blanket right now anyhow. I will make a note and harass you about it in six months. Love the color grid, going to hunt one down!

That blanket is very interesting....I can't wait to see it done. I have a room full of sock yarn so there may be one in my future if I can figure that slip thing out.

it is our OCEAN. We have no sharks WE have very clean water. But we have dangerous rip tides that must be respected..

Lake Michigan is pretty awesome. Not quite the ocean, but worthy in and of itself.

So, the blanket is joined to knit in the round? A baby blanket made of fingering weight sounds like a big project!

Yes joined in the round. It will be warm! Im excited now that I'm into it a bit

It is a no brainer. I probably didnt explain well. Just put a marker at the beginning of the circle and midway. At these two points only (after you join and knit in the round without twisting...there's the rub!) you knit the marked stitch on one row and slip it on the next all throughout the blanket. Then the two edges lay flat.

Love that photo of Lake Michigan! It made me a bit homesick though. WOW. 360 stitches; that must take forever for one row! Nice colors on it!

Now I get it. So you are making a tube that closes. Only two stitches total get slipped every other row, right? I actually went looking for this pattern last night and found everything but. Thanks!
