Rules for Treasure Hunting

*If I go to a garage sale the rules are simple:

-bring it home only if you can give it away or use it immediately

-pay next to nothing for it because you do not need this item that now seems very important but is not

-do not talk someone down, if it is marked too high just leave

-avoid purchases that lead to comments from fireman beginning with: Why?

I had to have this tea set.
I love to have something in my house that children would want to play with when they visit.
I gave away my Barbie last year.
This year.
Tiny tea set.
Takes up no space.
Encourages children to SERVE

What are your garage sale rules?

(tomorrow ..knitting I promise)

My daughter, two daughters-in-law and I have a combined garage sale every year. Our sons add things so it becomes a very big sale. After that I am always so happy to have the things I don't use in the hands of people who can use them. On the other hand, I never go to a garage sale. I would just buy stuff that would end up in next year's garage sale.

The Mister and I have been at odds all week because we are emptying Daddio's house and he does NOT understand why I want to bring any of the things home. The fact that it was my great, great grandmother's is not good enough for him. If he says the word "hoarder" to me one more time, I'm afraid you will be seeing my mug shot on the news.

When I have a yard sale, which now is rarely, I price things low to "get rid of them. At yard sales, I will not purchase items that are dirty, a little dust is fine, but grime is NOT.

I often go to garage sales and look around and leave empty handed. The only things I buy are things that are usually vintage and priced lower than I know the value is. The oak splint baskets I got in Missouri are worth way more than I paid for them. The Jadeite teacup and saucer are worth three times what I paid. :-) ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

There aren't many good garage sales in my area so I stopped going.

The tea set is very cute.

I rarely find anything good. But I am super picky and I don't want more junk in my house. I've been looking for corningware and pyrex stuff. I've dropped one too many lids. and I give them to my kids as well. love your tea set!
