Spring Cleaning and Retirement

*Spring cleaning is going on here at Irisheyes.
I've been deleting lots and lots of images from my computer.
Hundreds of them.
I used to be in the good habit of downloading images and immediately trashing the poor ones.
Then I got a bit lazy.

Another good thing about this cleaning, is finding some knits that I had not put in my Ravelry project page.  So, I've been updating that page, too.  It is soley for my own records.

Looks like I was trying to knit lace LAST year at this same time.
Isn't that funny?
Hmmm, maybe warmer weather makes me want to knit light things.

People ask me how I like retirement.
I love it.
I wish all my pals could retire from nursing if they wish.
On Holidays, especially, I am hugely thankful for being finished.
The stress of the job was not good for me the last 10 years.
I do miss the friendships that only survive with frequent work contact, but I keep up with some.
I know my pals are very busy, very tired and very overworked.
While I gave up Facebook for Lent...
(did I tell you that?)
I do like seeing what ISCU pals are up to on Social media.

Another thing I do not miss, is all the emotional eating and junk in the lounge.  It was our way of nurturing each other, but it was not healthy.  It takes SUPER skills to walk away from a table of homemade baked goods when you haven 't eaten in hours and you are stressed out.

To all my friends in Nursing, I say a little prayer for you every night.  I do.

I think, in my case, the hardest part about retiring is no longer seeing your workmates every day. Those people contacts were wonderful and I do miss them. I was a secretary most of my life and loved what I did. I've been retired for 15 years and I do love the freedom we have now to come and go whenever we want.

It's so sweet of you to be so concerned about your pals that are still in the trenches. By the time I retired, all my teacher friends had moved on to greener pastures so I never looked back. I miss the kids though and the rollar coaster highs that looming vacations bring. Life is a bit of flat line now. I'm not complaining just wistful....

I've been deleting bad photos too.. what a chore! I'm glad you're enjoying retirement.. me too.. if you miss people contact I recommend volunteering. But then again, I'm way too over-committed right now.. so don't do that! LOL! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Love the signs of spring! I see you are a fellow Illinoisan (is that even a word?). So glad things have finally warmed up. Enjoy your retirement!

True friendships will withstand retirement separation - ask me how I know that tidbit - the others were colleagues.

When are you getting the new kitten you mention in the sidebar?

Isn't it funny how unhealthy working in the medical profession is?

I've noticed there are MANY doctors who do not "practice what they preach", but I'm sure it is difficult when your on a crazy schedule.

I've been spring cleaning too, but of the more house-wise kind of thing. Doing the kitchen drawers today. It's amazing what shows up in there. LOL

Your spring cleaning is another inspiring thing about you Kathy B! I'm glad you are enjoying your retirement, you absolutely deserve it. Your heart is big, and remember even those who you do not still keep in regular contact with have benefited from your friendship just as much as you benefited from theirs. You're good people KB. Now teach me to be timely with my photo editing!

I LOVED my job, it also was in the medical field, but I love retirement much more! I need to do some spring cleaning myself. Photos are always such a chore!

you sound so happy with retirement, it sounds like you put all of your life into your job and now you are enjoying your life and personal pursuits. I'm glad that you are happy and feeling healthier.

Spring cleaning feels so good. Well, so does retirement! Good to make a change that's less stressful.

I love the feeling of spring cleaning, but it isn't going to happen here. Too much work!
It is so nice of you to feel for your still-employed colleagues. I know I appreciate the sympathy I get from retired teachers!
