Day 27, 2015 Game Set Match

This is Zach's girlfriend Izzy.  Isn't she a doll?  She's modeling her gifts from me of knitted hat and matching fingerless.
They met, in large part, due to their mutual love of the game of tennis.

We have been glued to the Australian Open.
I love watching tennis when our winter is pounding down on us.
Hope you are all surviving, whatever piece of the storm that went your way,  without troubles.
Here's my new yarn score!
Frolicking Feet in SUNFLOWER.
Al's favorite flower is the sunflower.
There's 400 yards in this skein and I'll need it all to make a nice long pair of socks.

My last adult pair of socks was the one skien of Lorna's laces...around 200 yards. I just squeaked by making a shorty pair for myself.
I wanted plenty of room this time.

I'll be casting on side by sides again later today.

Advantage: ME!

I agree...what a cute photo of your fabulous model.

I'd say you are scoring big today. I like picking up sock skeins of 400 yds, as I need every bit of it to make a nice pair of socks with a decent length of leg. Well, and I have a pretty long foot, too. LOL. The Sunflower colorway is beautiful.

Izzy is a doll and her hat and mitts are adorable on her! I'm not much of a sports watcher. DH watches tennis, golf, football, basketball--I could go on and on. I knit and hum now and then to let him know I'm still awake.

That is fabulous yarn!! I can't wait to see those socks finished!

Cute photo! The earlier one made the goves look blue. I guess you know what sport we are following this week? Nice yarn! The only ones I can make socks from 200 yds. for in our family are the GK! Love the sunflower skein.

The new yarn is gorgeous! I need to find some of those conversation jelly beans in your last post. Hubby likes the Robin Eggs at Easter, but I like the jelly beans or chocolate-covered marshmallow eggs. Mmm...sugar! Love the gloves and hat. Too bad your son's girlfriend is so reserved. LOL. She's a cutie.

Your son's GF is cute and looks very happy with her gifts! That yarn is amazing, I've never seen anything like it! I look forward to seeing your new socks in progress. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

When I knit socks for myself (7 inch cuff and size 10 foot), I need close to 400 yards, anything less results in a 6 inch cuff. I think the sunflower yarn is delightful - such vibrant colors for winter knitting!

The girlfriend is a super-cute model of the hat and gloves!
The Sunflower colored yarn is such a pretty color and I'll be watching for progress. Could you explain how you do side-by-side socks? I'm assuming you work a certain # of rows on one and then switch to the other one (on a separate needle) and work on it. Is this correct? Thanks.

Yes that's just how you do it. I knit the cuff on 4 needles, then pick up 4 more needles and knit another cuff . I mirror the work as I go through the sock portions of heel flap, heel turn, gusset, body and toes! Of course you have to halve your yarn first!

Izzy is ADORABLE!

Love that Sunflower yarn. Have you picked out a pattern?

Ooh, cute girl, nice knits, and lovely yarn. I just did a project with Frolicking Feet and adored working with it. Very nice and sproingy, with a great twist! That's a beautiful colourway too and perfectly suits its name.

They play on BLUE surfaces in Oz?

The yarn is just beautiful and so are the hat and gloves - looks like Izzy likes them too.
Have fun with your new project.

Thanks, kathy. I think I'll give this a try on my next pair of socks! Sounds like a great idea.

What's funny is while I played tennis until my back became an issue, I don't watch it on TV anymore. But I'm pretty sure I've mentioned UVA has a big game tonight already...

Izzy looks like a lot of fun, and clearly, your gifts are appreciated. Can't wait to see the sunflower socks.
