Bears, Blocking and Buttons

It rained a cold rain yesterday. This meant lots of time for finishing.
Zach needed a new hat.  I knit one that fit him well.   I measured his head circumference: 22  and a quarter inches.
Lynette at the knit shop says you take 2 inches off that and do your gauge math.  Mine was 4 stitches per inch.  So I cast on 22inches -2inches,
or 20inches  times 4 stitches per inch for 80 stitches  cast on.
I used a smaller needle size for the ribbing then switched up a size for the body.
I wanted it to slouch so the decreases at the top went like this:
Knit 3 knit 2 together.
Knit around.
Knit 2 knit 2 together.
Knit around.
Knit 1 knit 2 together .
Knit around .
Knit 2 together around and pull through.

It fit perfectly.
I used some lovely cascade 220 that Ellen sent me.
The hat is in Chicago Bears football colors.
Maybe it will bring them much needed luck!

Knitterbeader made blocking my fingerless lace gloves sound easy.
It was!
I soaked them and then laid them out, just patting them into shape.
I do think you can see the lace pattern better this way.
Thanks Knitterbeader.  That was easy, and I love easy.
The pattern, by the way, Little Arrowhead Fingerless, is written so the thumb gusset is easily knit into the body of the glove.
My final finish of Friday, was the Nomad
baby pullover button work.
The sweater is true blue in the first picture,
and somehow washed out in the last picture.
The gift is going to a new mom whose baby will be named Bella.

Yesterday was very March like here.
I didn't like it one bit.
We actually turned on the heat.

Fall, come back!
I haven't even eaten a taffy apple yet.

Happy Weekend Blog Buddies

Nice looking hat!! Wow...you even did the math to figure out a perfect fit??? Good for you! The pattern in your mitts shows up so nicely in today's picture. I love the look! And what a sweet baby sweater...cute as can be.

With this cold front that came through, I was thinking the same thing... I need a taffy apple and a pumpkin pie before winter sets in!!

It was 34F on Thursday with a cold rain that turned to snow, yes snow, but thankfully the white stuff did not stick! It's waaaay to early to think of Winter!

Love all your finished projects - the baby sweater is sweet.

I appreciate the hat recipe! I have a big head, and seldom make hats that actually fit me.

Nice hat, even though it's in Bears colors! Love the mitts, too, and Bella will look fabulous in that sweater! Love the edging, and the buttons are perfect.

90 + degrees here in Portland, OR, Kathy. What was that you typed about cool rain...our weather is reversed! I so admire your latest projects, and thanks for passing on advice for hat sizing. Now could you please send me some time to work on my projects I want to complete? xx

The mitts turned out beautifully - the lace really does show up better. The baby pullover is very sweet and love the heart buttons. We're waiting yet for cooler weather here in Arizona - still in the low hundreds.
Question: How come when I post a comment it shows up twice? Is it something I'm doing wrong?

It also makes everyone else's comments show up twice when I post my comment.. Wierd!

Great finishes! It's cooler here but very damp. I'm ready for some dryer weather no matter the temperature. I'm also ready for less bugs. I'm still full of itchy bites.

Your hat must have done the trick ....after San Fran looking like they were going to take it easily, Chicago has come back. Looks like they are about to score AGAIN too.

Beautiful items you made. Guess Zach will be glad with his hat. (I just found out that today seems to be Make a Hat day...)
All the knits look great - and I love the button choice!
