Hats, Hearts and Helping Hands

I love Lorna's laces.   This bulky knit up into a tam quickly…as in one night. I cast on 50 stitches.   I did the brim in size 10s and the body in 11s.
1 by 1 rib for 6 rows.
Increases every other stitch on the next row.
Knit until it is 7 inches.
K2 tog around
knit around
k2 tog around
k2 tog around and pull through.
Done.
It is even sweeter on, but it is too early for pictures of me this morning. I'll spare you.

Squee!!!  Laura was bottling the only surviving kitten dumped at the shelter last week.  This little girl is feisty and strong.
I will bottle kittens someday.
Not yet.  You have to get up and bottle them every 3 hours when they are this little.
Loved this heart at a recent art fair.
I love blues on blues.

Okay so I have a few more things to chat about today -

#1 Has anyone used a yard mosquito killer before a party?
Did it work well?
We are having a big bbq this weekend and the mosquitos are out in force.  We will put out the party tent but we have to do something else so everyone won't get bit up.  West Nile is surfacing again in this area….so I can justify harsh chemicals for one day of the year…

#2

Can you tread water?  I was in my neighbor's pool the other night.
I just go to the deep and tread water while my neighbor sits on the side of her pool.  I tread for over an hour without batting an eye. I am very buoyant.  :)  Everyone is so amazed at this, I am not.
Are you a treader?

#3

I made Ina Garten's gazpacho Monday.
It was so delicious.
I was amazed that it was so darn good.
I think following her measurements precisely was key.

I'm meeting up with a pretend friend today for the first time!
I'm so excited that this is working out.
Fireman and I are meeting Judy and Dick from
Stitch Along With Me
for lunch….

There will be photos!

Oh my gosh! I am so jealous. I have had the pleasure of getting together with Judy and Dick twice when they were here in Florida. Tell them I said HI!

I CAN tread water. I float well too. Soooooo relaxing and it blocks out all the noise. I can just chill!

West Nile is a threat here nearly every summer - so much so that the city sprays sometimes twice a week. Good luck keeping the mosquitoes at bay for your BBQ.

Your hat is gorgeous! Can't wait to see pictures of you wearing it. I love the blue plaque but I especially like the quote printed on it.

We usually use candles, but we bought mosquito plants this year and distributed them around the yard in planters. Someone told me they don't work but we have not had any mosquitoes around--for some reason.

I can tread water. My problem is sinking! When I took lifesaving they wanted me to pick up a brick on the bottom of the deep end of the pool and bring it to the top. I finally did it after many, many tries but my body wanted to rise to the top, and diving down 12 feet without any weights was near impossible. The coach said it was that extra fat layer women have, blah, blah, blah. I don't want to hear about the fat!

I have no idea if I am a sinker of floater. It's been years since I've been in the water. I'm betting I'm a floater since I'm much fluffier than I used to be.
Good luck with the mosquito battle. I hate the evil buggers.

I don't like to be wet so if Im in the pool I'm quickly out :) We rescued five (!) stray kittens a few weeks ago, I'm still recovering from the event. We were very lucky to find a foster home within 24 hours--opened my eyes to the sadness of strays.

love the lorna laces and I have no idea about chemicals and killing bugs--good luck with that!!

Oh my goodness! That kitten is absolutely adorable. You're right, that would be like having a baby needing all night feedings. Not for me.
Baby kitty is cute!
I can float well, but I can't tread water.

Love the tam! Nice colors, but you are making me think about lorna's lace, dangit!
The kitty is too cute to be real. so little!
Love Ina Garten and how she's always talking about jeffrey. I can tread water very well. I did it a lot in the ocean. I am a fan of the egg beater.
Have fun on your lunch, can't wait to see photos of your good times. all the best Kathy!

Love your hat - think I'll just have to give that a try. Too warm here in Arizona to wear it, but have family living up north in Washington state.
I tread water a lot and also find it relaxing.
The kittens are so cute!
We don't have mosquitoes where we live - thank goodness!
Now off to get some Lorna's Laces!!!!

Great looking hat! And on big needles, it's a quick knit, which is always good.
Bottling a kitten...oh that's so cute! Thank goodness for gals who do this and save those little one's lives!
As for treading water... well, I'm not too buoyant, and treading water is work for me. Good exercise, though.
I don't have any advice on the mosquitoes... it would be nice if the "killer machine" would work for you!

Love the hat, love the heart and I'm a treader. The Knight is a fish; I can swim, but it hurts my back now.
