Do You Have a Color Trick?

It's not Green Acres around here, but we are enjoying the gardening.
This Peony bush was here when we bought the house in 1983 and it still thrives on neglect.
Our little tree is about 4 years old.  It was a give away at our local street fair and it took off in the garden..
I love the color of evergreen new growth.  It is about as big as the ferns now.
I never know exactly how things will take off in our garden.

Or in my Yarn Garden:

Below you have the Lorna's Laces Arlington wound together with a skien of gold/orange koigu.
I thought it would be a perfect combo for my 3rd Trap.

Well, I was sorely disappointed after just a few rows.
Would you have guessed it would not be very flattering.?

So I dug around my stash and found some Leftover sock yarn in light green and I like this effect much better.
Which one do you like?

What tricks to do use to make colors behave together before you buy the yarn?

I a green that the green looks better. The orange overpowers the yarn.

Yep, the green is it! Even if the orange didn't work, you are a brave knitter. I rarely buy yarns to blend into one project. It is usually a happy coincidence when I find two colors in my stash that go together.

I have the worst color sense in the world. Clown barf is my favorite color. If it looks like a rainbow I buy it. Then I stick it in the closet with all the other clown barf where it will remain until my survivors toss it.

Sometimes I really think I have no color sense at all. ;-) You can tell that by my current project.

I love the photo of the pitchfork. Did you take it?

Sometimes I take a photo and put it in black and white…if the colors are super similar and I'm looking for something with more of a difference, than I know I've got to go back to the drawing board!

Love that peony! Ours came with the house and are a boring white. You nailed it with the second start! 3 Traps; I'm still in awe.

Oh Kathy, the new colors are great, but I know that feeling! That should work! Why doesn't it work! Story of my life!
