The Dreaded Finish

So there I was thinking I could alter a pattern for the better.  I was cabling away and feeling all smug and knitterly.  Then it happened. Somewhere on the way to a hat, the white cables became the dreaded TOILET paper Cover.  The one your Aunt Francis used to make. The one the relatives still laugh about.

Yes, I made the body too long and the seam too ugly.  (and the top a bit pointy)   It could only be meant for the bathroom.   Ah pride does goeth before a fall!!!

It's a very good thing I like to laugh at myself.   It does look rather nice their on the tank cover doesn't it?

Carry on, Kathy B, carry on. :)

Ha, Ha, Ha. Oh Kathy, that's quite the finish! But yes, it worked out well for a toilet paper cover. LOL!!

Love the cables!

Undo the top a bit and turn it into a posh receptacle/dispenser for all those plastic shopping bags that tend to multiple overnight.

I think it looks spectacular, know ever needs to know that this was not the soul purpose for this pattern. you could be onto something, toilet paper covers in all sort of different stitch patterns.

I once mad a hat, going with the flow and doing it my way and it ended up with three points on top, instead of one smooth nice decrease. yikes it was hysterical, and still is my friends favorite hat to wear.

Meredith

It's a very handsome TP cover. So much classier than the Barbie Doll one my mother-in-law had in her bathroom.

I'm sorry --- 75 is TOO OLD for Barbie Dolls. LOL

Wow I like the look of the TP cover on the toilet!! I just never know what to do with the extra roll so guests don't have to check out my cabinets looking for one. What a happy mistake! I need to make one.

My mother used to say, "It's all over when I can no longer laugh at myself."

Great save. I never thought of that. I have lots of hats that could go that route. Love it!

Nah! I've just been pondering how you did the top as I thought you were knitting something flat. At any rate your cables look great!

Weird, my post vaporized! Anyhow, you didn't scare me, but I have spent the afternoon pondering how you did that top when I thought you were knitting something flat!? Your cables turned out great!

Just consider it your "swatch" or "practice piece", and knit on! I have not thought of TP covers in AGES... my Gran made some very interesting ones in her days. In the early 70s she made some from this fake fur stuff which was also used to make fake flowers. Then there were the crocheted ones. What's old becomes new again, and you are just very prepared for when the trend comes around again!

What a pretty cover! My Nana used to say, "If you're going to make a mistake, do it gracefully." I'd say that's elegant!

I remember my grandma had one that looked like a Spanish doll. It was crochet.
