Simply Saturday

I promised you knitting and it follows shortly.

The plums for plum cobbler looked even more lovely drenched in brown sugar. A simple cobbler is often our most favorite dessert.

 Fresh garden goods thrown together with balsamic vinegar and oil...and fresh oregano..
It popped in your mouth.  MMMMMM.
I highly recommend growing your own oregano.
It is nothing like the dried bitter stuff that comes out of the spice aisle in the store.
Mine grows very slowly...but it is simply wonderful.

 Finally: the simplest of shawls.  Miles and miles of knit stitch.  Simple knitting.
I Simply couldn't put this yarn on my feet.
It is not itchy in the least.
So often I knit myself a shawl and it
itches...
This is the gift yarn from Channon.
It is a simple joy for me to pick up the needles and relax immediately.

and on that note:
Simple Simon met a pieman,
Going to the fair;
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Let me taste your ware.
Says the pieman to Simple Simon,
Show me first your penny;
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Indeed I have not any.
Simple Simon went a-fishing,
For to catch a whale;
All the water he had got,
Was in his mother's pail.
Simple Simon went to look
If plums grew on a thistle;
He pricked his fingers very much,
Which made poor Simon whistle.[1]

I will have to try growing some oregano. I do basil and you are right, nothing like the jarred stuff.

I want to try pumpkins next year too. Last year I started making my own pumpkin puree. It is WONDERFUL. Now I want to make my own PUMPKINS!

We have grown pumpkins too. It is great fun to use them for Jack o lanterns. I love the look of the pumpkins in the garden on the vine come september!

Oh yeah, nothing like a cobbler or "crunch" for dessert. Yum!

A yummy looking dessert, and a yummy-colored shawl! Would you believe we can't grow pumpkins here? They just stay green, or at least they did when we tried. Maybe it was just a bad year?

JUdy: the pumpkins need a looong summer . WE have to start them early outside and cover them with plastic milk cartons if frost threatens..... If you got them to the green stage, you can get them further. Try a pie pumpkin...smaller but just as cute.

Zach: THANKS for the comments and compliments!
THey will get you far

I hear you about itchy shawls...it's such a disappointment after you put so much work into it.
I grow my own herbs too and there is no comparison to the dried. It's the smell of summer around here. Those plum look so yummy. I can't find good ones around here. They are all hard and bitter.

I'm such a rude girl. You sent such a fun little package to me, and I didn't have the courtesy to thank you right away. Rest assured that the wonderful, silk yarn to resting happily in my knitting basket, waiting for me to get organized enough to plan a project, and the Visor has been worn with pride throughout the summer.
