Peaches and Patterns

There has been some thank you knitting going on.
I'm in the process of making a friend's dog a winter coat.  Little Chico will be so cute in this Linus Sweater.  Chico's human mom, Jamie , is doing me an enormous favor, and I want to thank her in a big way.
I've practically finished the front.  This pattern is so easy and so fun.   It's a free Ravelry pattern.

We came across some amazing Peaches today.  The Peach vendor/grower gave us a few tips for picking peaches.

*Never pick  a peach with any green on it.

* A peach will soften once picked but it won't sweeten.

*It is the buyer's job to soften the peaces.  Place them on a sill until the give a bit with finger press.

Here is the Orchard's Grilled Peaches Recipe!

Peaches, 1 for each person
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
juice of one lemon
1/4 tsp black pepper

Halve the peaches. Remove the pits.  Drizzle with 2 tsp lemon juice.

Cover with plastic wrap and set aside.

In saucepan combine vinegar, brown sugar, more  lemon juice and pepper until reduced by 1/2.

Place peaches cut side down on hot lightly oiled grill.
Cover and cook 2 minutes or until there are grill marks.
Turnover and baste the cut sides with the vinegar mixture.
Cover your grill and cook about 3 more minutes until softened.

"It's the buyer's job to soften the peaches" has to be one of the greatest sentences ever.

Ooh, those grilled peaches sound amazing.

I was told to put stone fruits in a brown paper bag for ripening/softening. But a windowsill sounds easier. :)

Love that sweater. Some lucky little doggie is going to look adorable in it.

Cute sweater colors!

I wish there was a way to tell if a peach is a "cling" peach or a "free stone". :::sigh:::

I will have to ask the peach people about a way to tell the difference.....maybe there are varieties of each that are named so...????

Yum! The peaches sound wonderful. I haven't had any really good peaches this summer but the cherries are delicious!

I love the yarn you are using for the dog sweater. It looks so soft and fluffy!

Cute doggie sweater! We always freeze a few jars of peaches in orange juice for a special treat on Christmas Day. (The OJ keeps the peaches from turning brown and it's a yummy combination.) Peaches are one of our favorite fruits!

I love me some grilled peaches. Slap some vanilla ice cream on there or pour me a glass of red wine and I'm beholden. Those peaches are beautiful.

I was once told that free-stone peach pits (stones) come out easily and cling peaches "cling" to their pits.

Mmmm, peaches. I haven't made a cobbler all season yet - maybe it's time for one!
