The Nurse Thing

I wanted to visit Mia Bell Yarn shop in Highland Park yesterday but they were closed.
Summer hours....and all that.

I loved this little dress in the shop window.   I think this shade of green looks great on everyone...
(Except maybe a jaundiced baby..
sorry that's the nurse in me again)

I learned how to knit through the back of a knit stitch to twist it yesterday.  I read it on a website and they recommend it for a tighter knit.  They suggested the stitch for dishcloths.   I have to finish some dishrags for Al.  I think I'll try it.

I also learned yesterday, that even a blind cat will seek out a patch of sunshine to nap in.  Little Pie is pretty amazing.  Her bold spirit and her constant purring makes her irresistible.   I wish she would eat better/ she needs to grow.   Maybe I can fortify her milk to a higher calorie.....oops there goes the nurse in me again.

The nurse in me worried for the neighbor kids shooting off fireworks last night.  Unsupervised...much of the time.
My neighbor blew his fingers off his hand with fireworks in the 1970s.  He was never the same.

Does your profession/lifework seep into your daily goings about???

Oh yeah! I'm doctor sapphire sometimes. Since I work in a hospital, I watch tv and say, he's had a stroke or something to that effect.

Oh sweet little Pie, I'm sure you can give her a supplement of some sort. A little like slipping vitamins to a toddler in the form of Gummy Bears. I used to love doing that with the grandkids!!

I try so hard not to let my professional life blend with my private life but it's hard. For a long time a neighbor thought I am a computer tech because I was always talking about problems with one software program or another. Yep, data entry about sums it up!!

Yes. The retired teacher in me, and the longarm quilter, both leak out when watching tv or when out and about... can't help it, but I try not to be obnoxious with it.

Have you read the book "Homer's Odyssey", by Gwen Cooper? (Yes, I know that book title should be underlined, but I can't figure out how to do it and it is really BUGGING the retired teacher in me!) It is about her raising a blind kitten. Very interesting and sometimes funny. I'm not through with it yet, but am enjoying it. I imagine you would also since you rescue cats.

Yes. Always the analytical. LOL I'm sure it drives my friends nuts.

I love your striped petunias. So patriotic! :-)

HAVE YOU GIVEN LITTLE PIE BABY MEAT? OUR KITTENS HAVE ALWAYS LOVED IT AND ITS ALLK PROTEIN AND THE VETS SAY IT BUILDS STRONG BONES.
THE TEACHER IN ME APPEARS ALL TO OFTEN. A FRIEND AND I WERE VISITING THE FIELD MUSEUM AND HAD TO RESTRAIN EACH OTHER NOT TO TELL THE WAYWARD STUDENTS TO WALK NOT RUN, STOP CLIMBING ON THINGS ETC. MY BROTHER IN LAW ALWAYS WOULD SAY HE KNEW WHEN MY NEPHEWS WERE UP TO SOMETHING BECAUSE HE WOULD HEAR MY TEACHER VOICE APPEAR. HMM, WONDER IF THAT VOICE WOULD WORK ON 2 5 MONTH MONTH OLD KITTENS.
IF PIE GROWS TOO FAST, SHE WILL HAVE TO LEAVE YOU. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

I second the baby meat comment above. My feral kittens loved it and it packs on the pounds. I even mix it with baby rice cereal for more bulk when giving it to my skinny old frail blind dog. She loves it.
As a retired teacher and a regular Miss Bossypants, I have a hard time not analyzing the development of the children in the family. I have learned the hard way to bite my tongue.

I've been retired from nursing for 12 years... it never goes away.

Oh, that little dress is so precious!! Caught my eye on my sidebar just like it did yours in the shop!! LOL!

I like your idea about an "Ensure" of sorts for little Pie. Hope it works. I think they FEEL the sun... Sunshine on my shoulder... blessings ~ tanna

I think I will stick with the Purina Kitten chow. Thank YOu so much for the tips on the baby meat....I'll put that in my back pocket for a future need someday...

Pie is eating better!!! I have seen her eat the dry kibble a few times today! THis is big improvement.

She had an immunization the day I took her home..that may have kept her eating down, or the stress of moving .....even a good change can be a stressor!

Oh yeah, once a teacher, always a teacher; however, the red pen was permanently retired in 2005.

I think you are right about the sage green looking nice on nearly everyone - the dress is adorable.

That really is a cute little dress! Little Pie is so lucky to have you caring for her. I started playing teacher as a young kid; now that I'm retired I volunteer as a tutor and also teach knitting to antepartum patients.

Your 'tunias a lovely; have you seen the pink and green edged ones?

Every.Single.Day. I have a couple of grands that that dress would be perfect for!

I have to be careful of that shade of green too... but I love it.

Love the peppermint-looking petunias.

And yes, I have moved "shelter in place", "chain of command" and other fire service terms into the JLC vernacular.

Come back to Mia Bella on a Thursday, if you can, Kathy. I started working there last August. It's a fun, little shop and we'd love to see you. Sadly, I'm only working on Thursdays until we start opening on Mondays again in August! Then I'll be there Mondays and Thursdays!
