Questions.

This is a picture less post.
Do not pass go
Do not collet 200 dollars

I need suggestions from my smart knit pals....
-I wound the salsa mohair by Dancing Leaf Farms just know.....It has the rainbow of colors dyed into it.  The colors change quickly.....like every 12 inches....
This could get very busy,
So. Would knitting socks make it more stripey or would a shawl stretch out the color changes?

Inquiring minds want to know.....help

More questions

If you have to hand wash an article and let it air dry, how do you make it soft again.....???

And finally
Do you get up early to knit or do you stay up late to knit?

No help on the stripey yarn, but once my hand washing is totally dry I will throw it in the dryer on warm with a dryer sheet,it won't shrink but does soften it.
Hugs to you,
Meredith

I think I might go with the shawl.
I was going to suggest the rubbery dryer balls and the items you want to soften on the lowest temp possible or in a bag and perhaps that will help with softening.
I do not use fabric softener on any of my clothing because I found out I was allergic but the rubber pointy balls have helped immensely.

1. Not sure angora would work well for socks. No idea on the stripey-ness.

2. I use hair conditioner to soften scratchy yarn.

3. I'm a late night knitter all the way. I've never been a morning person.

Socks and angora would not be a good match. What about fingerless mitts?

Hair conditioner would help soften the yarn.

I like to knit in the afternoon and in the evening - not usually a late night knitter, though.

I'm with everyone else about socks and angora - angora is too soft (generally) to hold up to the hard wear of socks. I can't really tell you about the stripy-ness - it will totally depend on the guage you are knitting it at. As much as I hate it - swatch, swatch, swatch.

I often "rinse" stiff or scratchy handknits with hair conditioner. Most yarns are animal fiber so conditioner will soften your yarn just as it will your hair.

Knitting - I generally knit in the evenings while hubby is watching tv. I also knit during my commute. g

look the yarn up in the Ravelry data base and then see what others made with it. I would choose a shawl but A I love Shawls and 2 I agree about angora and socks not matching. Are you handwashing the item or machine? I would put some Euclan or something in the rinse but I have not had much trouble with it becoming coarse again, ever. I too am a late night knitter. I rarely pick up the needles before noon choosing to get everything else out of the way in the morning

Socks and angora might not be the best - although that would be super soft!

As for when - I typically knit while commuting to work/home (I take public transportation). I can't really knit at home because the dog and bunny both like to eat my yarn. :-/

In answer to your last question because I'm not smart enough to answer the others :) I most often knit when I am riding along in a car, or whenever I can grab a few minutes throughout the day.

Gracie

Q#1: I vote for shawl.
Q#2: Soft = Eucalan (I buy the stuff by the gallon)!
Q#3: Knitting is my constant companion. It lives with me but I don't get up early or stay up late to do it.

I knit hard things early in the morning before anyone else gets up and easy things at night in bed or watching TV.
As for the color issues, I had the same problem recently. I started out making a pair of lacy socks with a yarn with very short color changes. It was awful-way too busy. Ripped it out and started over with plain socks-much better. As for your choice, Grace has the answer I would suggest. Do your homework on Ravelry and see what looks best to you.

I'm also not sure socks and angora mesh well.

I'm reading all the suggestions others had for making a knit soft again. You have some wise readers.

Ah yes, the "what to do with the yarn I fell in love with at the store?" I have found stripey yarn works well as a chevron long scarf, or shawlette. Kind of like wearing colorful jewelry...
On laundry, I just wear it and it softens.
I'm a late night knitter, since I work nights and it lulls me to sleep after a busy shift.

Hmmm - I can't imagine mohair socks - so I'd go with the scarf. But you may be onto something with the tube effect. Perhaps a scarf that you knit in the round?

Good luck!

I wouldn't use mohair for socks and I use hair conditioner to soften scratchy yarn. I'm a late night knitter although if it were up to me I could knit all day too. ;-)

Angora and socks - not a good match in my world. I'd go with the shawl. I stay up late to knit but have found as often as not, I make more mistakes when it's late. I keep doing it, though.

I suspect you've gotten all the opinions you need already (ah, the sadness of falling behind on blog reading) but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway... :)

1. Socks would probably be more stripey, but they could pool too. Unless you have a sample of the stripes in socks (and like them!) I'd go with a shawl.

2. Some wool washes keep the article surprisingly soft even when air dried. Depending on the item and the fiber, you could also throw it in the dryer for a short time on low/no heat.

3. Yes? Usually I stay up late to knit, but every now and then I'll get up early for a weekend and knit while I have my morning tea.
