Headphone Hat Prototype

When Zach asks for a hat, I generally stop everything and knit one.

This is my second attempt at his headphone hat.

It is far from perfect.

I will be trying again, in the coming weeks with better yarn and the realization that good knitters rip a lot, as Karen R. Says.   Karen is a great knitter.

There are strategically placed holes a bit bigger than the ear cup on each side of the hat.

In my first attempt I used a fancy buttonhole design that didn't work-
In this attempt I split the hat into two parts on two circulars while I knit the holes and then rejoined them to one circular needle for the hat body.

It is far from perfect, but it will do for now.
Zach is grateful for it.

He would like another snowboard  hat in washable wool -  like
the one his friend's dog ate last week.
For now he can snowplow the sidewalks with his headphones on in this washable acrylic prototype. Thanks Zach for making me THINK about my knititng this week.
Practice makes perfect.

When I have the pattern perfected, I may try to sell it.

What do you thinK?

I love it. I need a headband/calorimetry type thingy that does that so I can wear my earphones while I skate so they don't fly off my head. Hmmmm....if I left all the short row holes instead of wrapping them and then wove the ear pieces in and out...See what you started! :)

Every great design starts with a prototype and then tweaked. You're halfway there.

First of all he is a cutie, don't tell him I said that. I think you would sell a lot of them. Make some with bigger holes and some with smaller ones for smaller earphones.

No, no, bad dog! LEAVE IT!

... Ironically, "leave it" is Sissy's best command... maybe tied with "drop it"! We excelled in those commands before we learned of her food allergies. As long as I'm watching and ready to bark a command, the girl won't swallow an allergen.

Anyhoo, I think the hat design would be popular. Having been in charge of the fire dispatch center for several years, I'm on a mission to avoid headsets of any sort these days, but I know a lot of people who run with them regularly.

Yes, sell it by all means!

And ditto to what Meredith said.... :)

Great idea. I wouldn't mind knitting one for myself. With my short, short hair I often wear a hat even in the house and when I put on headphones to watch a movie and shut out the golf and football on TV it would be nice to have the ear pieces fit over my ears through the hat. Brava Kathy!!! You are a genius, and yes, you should market the pattern! I agree with Mereknits that you should make the pattern adjustable so some are big enough for Beats and some are small enough for earbuds.

That would be great. Some of my younger classmates always wear hats. I'm sure they would appreciate holes.
