Learning Curves

This nuthatch makes my day whenever it comes around.  I learned quickly from a friend who BIRDS as they say, that if you want interesting birds you have to feed nuts.  So I feed suet with nuts and the birdfeeder also holds a nut mixture.   I loved the movie THE BIG YEAR, mostly for its scenery.
This pair of socks has been slower than usual due to my learning curve.....
I learned that I love the concept of an afterthought heel.  I learned that I don't like the way the heel pulls at the foot as if it wants a gusset there...
I don't like the pointy heel.   This means I am ripping out the heel. I will knit a round toe finish in the heel instead.  Live and learn.  It may end up being my new favorite way to make socks..but I shouldn't get ahead of myself here.

I did successfully knit the Kitchener method thanks to Katherine, of Comfort Zone blog.   Wahoo.  I CAN do it.  It was not as hard as I was making it out to be....
imagine that.
Finally I learned today that Mosiac yarn in DesPlaines carries Ella Rae Lace Merino in Chunky.  This is an oxymoron.  Lace/Chunky.
I learned the owner charges exactly what I would pay online for this yarn.....isn't that nice?  I got to touch it and see it for it's true color, which is more orange than my camera showed here, before I purchased it.

So I must be a Smarty Pants after all this new knowledge....
or maybe I'm late to the party....that is a bit more likely!

I've wondered how an afterthought heel would feel on the foot, so thank you for your observations.

My neighbor feeds birds in her backyard, and they perch in my lilac bush for cover. I'm happy and the birds are happy. Unfortunately, another neighbor's cat is also happy - she's a hunter, which doesn't make me very happy.

I LOVE feeding the birds (so do my feline girls!) and the nuthatch and Tufted Titmouse are my two fave nut/sunflower seed eaters.

Isn't it amazing that God keeps his eye on the sparrows - so how much more will he keep his eyes on US!!!!

I love your socks (sorry but I don't like the pointy heel)! Yippee, I KNEW you could do the kitchener with no problem!

Definitely a Smarty Pants!! That yarn is yummy!! I'm so proud of you and your Kitchener toe. I agree with you on the heel. That is exactly the problem I had with the afterthought heel. Also that is one of the cutest socks I've seen!!

I think the smarty pants route is the one I would choose, never late to the party.

You're really good to figure out what the problem is and how to fix it.
