Christmas comes in all ways

So we start our celebration in a very little while. Having to work the holidays makes our different this year, but I always say it is a Season not a Day. The ham is going into the oven soon and we are going to glaze it for the first time ever.....do you glaze???

Here is my Auntie Rita's Baked Beans
1 lb. of crisp bacon crumbled
1/4 cup Karo White Syrup
1/4 Cup mustard
1 T. Butter
1 lb brown Sugar
3 onions
1 clove garlic
1 Cup Ketchup

Cans of beans : Butter, black, kidney 2 each

Brown the butter. Cut the onion into rings. Chop the garlic fine. Add the onion and garlic to the butter and stir until golden in color. Add Brown sugar and Karo syrup and bring to a rolling boil. Add the mustard last and pour over the beans. Pour into oven type casserole dish.

Bake 3 hours at 225 degrees. In the Last 1/2 hour add 1 cup ketchup.
Best if baked the day before serving.

Yum!! I'll have to mince the onions... the Knight won't eat it if he sees 'em... I think I might have everything I need in the pantry.

Merry Christmas!

I love baked beans! If you lived closer, I'd hop in the car and bring you some cookies for working on the holiday. Last Christmas I ended up in the ER and so appreciated them being there for me. Have a very wonderful Christmas celebration, early or not. I'm with you on the 12 Days part! Happy, happy Christmas, Kathy!

I use molasses instead of the syrup, but everything else is the same.

Thanks so much for the baked beans recipe. I will make them this weekend.

I am amazed by the Christmas cactus! Only once in my life have I had one that would actually bloom on or near Christmas. If you grew that yourself I am SO in awe!!

I always think of my Grandma when I see a Christmas cactus. She was the only person I knew who could keep one alive and blooming.

Until I met you, that is.

MERRY!!!!!!!!!!!

Merry Christmas.

Our Christmas is different this year too. This is the first year we are empty-nesters and our son is just coming to visit.

It feels weird. LOL

Love your cactus. I have two giant ones that have been blooming for a month or so.

My evil stepfather worked for a company that made baked beans. He always took them to every event. I've hated bean ever since, probably more my feelings about him than the actual beans.
