Tomato heaven

Oh we're in it here in Chicago. Our tomato plants loved the heat and the rain. We have an abundant crop of plums and black cherry tomatoes. We've made salsa and we've baked tomatoes slowly in olive oil and parmesan. These baked tomatoes are soooo good on a piece of toast.....or a bagel.
Not that I can chew those things now, but before the gum graft I enjoyed them.

There is just nothing that takes the place of a tomato from your own garden or a friend's. We know the store bought pale in comparison. Almost to the point of being a different food.

What is your favorite recipe with homegrown tomatoes? Just the title is fine, we'll go after you if it sounds interesting and we cant come close on google searches...

Today involves a brief car trip to visit friends, and kitten free knitting. Little beloved Beatles loves to chew on my yarn as I am knitting with it... it is a good thing he's is such a beloved Beatle...

I agree that home-grown tomatoes are MUCH better than the hot-house varieties sold in the grocery store.

My favorite recipe for tomatoes? None - I love to eat them raw with either a light sprinkle of sugar or a dash of salt. Yum!

tom planted about 4 plants of heirlooms outside our front door--we have a boat load of tomatos and enjoy them in everything with everything, I ordered some with an omelot on sunday and sent them back they were so bad--tasted like fish, I will only eat them from home for now!

That'll be good for sauce.

SALSA! Good old Texas salsa--the hotter the better. Home grown tomatoes make the best. We had some last night with BBQ'd chicken wings. Your basket full looks mmmmmmm good!

Kitties and yarn --- sort of like peanut butter and jelly -- they just go together.

But, it won't be long before Beatles is no longer a kitten. In the meantime --- yarn box is your friend.

I agree nothing beats homegrown tomatoes. I didn't plant any this year but if I had the heat would have done them in like last year.

Make marinara sauce. You can freeze the extra.

I love a BLT. That's about as far a home-grown 'mater gets in this house.

I am definitely coveting your yummy looking tomatoes. Just yesterday, in answer to a local someone's tomatoe woes, the much esteemed area gardener stated in his column: "Your first mistake was living in Western Washington." No matter what kind we plant, we get teeny weeny cherry-sized tomatoes. I gave up long ago and fill up on tomatoes and corn when we visit DD#2, who lives, you guessed it, in the Chicago area! Enjoy a few for me, OK? {as soon as you can....)

I love homemade tomato sauce! :) I also love tomato parm. I also like raw tomatoes with mozzarella cheese and vinegrette!

Great tomatoes. It never gets hot enough on this side of the mountain to redden up anything but cherry tomatoes.

Either just standing over the kitchen sink with a fresh tomato and a shaker or salt, juice dripping with every bite
OR
with cottage cheese.
