This Pool is COOL

Why can't my Yarns pool this cool? My friend Abby turned her first heel yesterday on this pretty sock. I was happy to have her to the porch for such a momentous occasion. Her husband didn't grasp the significance of this moment in a knitter's life, but I have to say Fireman did. (Perhaps because he was going under the knife and knew this knitter, his real nurse for the week, would appreciate a tiny show of enthusiasm..........
he raised one eyebrow every so slightly at her husband and shot him a code look that said :to them it is a Big Heel deal. )

What felt neat was Abby's saying how proud her own grandmother would have been to see her turn that heel. I love the generational stuff.

So Fireman did really great today. Thank you all for the support, prayers and thoughts. I can't say enough how much I appreciate it. I finsihed one sock body and toe while he was in the OR.

Our operating room has this strange board that is like one at an airport. You follow the Doctor's name and when it changes colors, it means the patient has moved around. ie: purple is the patient is in the pre op holding area, Blue is he's in the OR,
etc. I refused to look at it. I think it is goofy. Sort of a weird game for family members to keep busy.
BY the way I can't believe how many people stare off into space during such times. To each their own by all means, but I was very glad I was knitting.

Now, if the patient sleeps awhile, I may get to the heel of the second sock!

I talk more in the comments!

Yarn is super lovely - glad Fireman is ok and that you're able to knit while waiting at the hospital - perfect way to wait!

Hmmmm... The status board sounds neat. I wonder if our hospitals have one now?

Congrats to your friend. My first heel turn required three people in three different states and Gmail chat...

I'm hoping your firefighter is the first one I've known of who is a good patient! ;)

Glad to hear the surgery went well. You must be a calm person to be able to knit in OR waiting. I've tried it several times and ending up frogging everything.

Will be in OR waiting next Thursday with an undemanding but distracting book to read.

I hope the patient gets lots of restful sleep and the nurse does as well! That is great yarn Abby is using. Love the colors! Turning the first heel is a big deal. Thankfully my DH was smart enough to ooo and ahh at my first one.
