About the color white

These flowers are abloom in my garden. I don't know what they are. My dad let me transplant them from his burm and I had a place for them. Too bad they weren't in bloom when my friends came to knit the other night......anyhow:

About white yarn.

I don't like it. Do you? Al has tried several times to make things with various shades of white and neither of us ends up liking them. They all get frogged. There is something about white yarn that seems to cheapen the look of the garment.

I don't recall seeing many photo shoots of garments knitted in white. Is this because we are so blessed with a plethora of colored yarns?

Maybe I just see a stain coming when I see all that white. What is your opinion on white yarn?
Maybe I'm really missing out! Am I?

The plant looks like Angel's Trumpet, aka Datura. They are beautiful, but poisonous, so be very careful about touching, and certainly don't eat.

I just made a shrug in white a few weeks ago - and I love it. Look for it soon on my blog . . . I just need to get Pea to take a picture of me wearing it. In general, I usually pick colors though - my two white projects (the finished shrug and a WIP cardigan) are both white because the yarn was on sale and that was the only color choice. :)

I like doilies in white, and I had white as accents in a knit hat with colorwork once, but as a rule I don't wear white so I probably wouldn't wear a sweater of it.

I second the Angel Trumpet assessment - are they pretty big? I've got one on the corner of the sun room, but it's not blooming yet. Nothing is really blooming right now except the roses, it all just looks baked.

I like white cotton, and white mohair, and I dislike any other white yarn! Cotton is for summer, so white is OK, and mohair for white snowy winters...
If it's really Datura, take care if you have animals, it could be dangerous for them!

Re : But I think it's more an Ipomea or a Mirabilis : the leaves are quite different of a Datura's ones...

I love white yarn in all shades, from natural to ivory, to bleached. One on my favorite knitting photos is from a knitting book where they have six different white aran sweaters, all different fibers, silk, wool, cotton, all different shades... stacked on top of each other. It's gorgeous! To me, they look so soft. I think that's why I like white, it looks like a wooly, sheepy cloud! I will try to remember which book... :)
