Margaret Ann Gaug Mothers Day card

I loved this etching from the moment I saw it at a local garage sale. The artist designed and published greeting cards. She was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers and her work has been shown at the Smithsonian.

I think her Whistler's Mother is softer and sweeter than the original.

I have a tendency to police the world you know! I witnessed a playground fight amongst middle school boys and yelled at the bullies to knock it off. I said to the the loud mouth..."Who is your mother?" and he shot back so fast it nearly made me quiver in my little authoritarian pose-
"Whose mother are YOU?"
I said IM EVERYBODY'S MOTHER.

To all woman who are mothers, aunts, neighbors, sisters, in-laws and girls who want to bear children: Happy Mother's Day. Women are everybody's mothers.
